BYD Technology Conference: 5-minute charging provides a range of 400 kilometers, electric vehicles with a range exceeding 1000 kilometers

[PCauto] BYD introduced groundbreaking technologies during the launch event on March 5, 2026, which indeed made people excited. These advancements dramatically enhance the charging speed, range, and intelligent driving capabilities of electric vehicles, such as the 1000V electrical architecture, MW Flash Charge 2.0, and God’s Eye 5.0.

MW Flash Charge 2.0

The most eye-catching highlight of this launch event is undoubtedly the so-called "MW Flash Charge 2.0".

For most ordinary car owners, MW (megawatt) might just be a physical unit. But in real vehicle usage scenarios, it enables charging for 400 to 500 kilometers in just 5 minutes.

This means you can park your car at a service station, plug in the charger, take a bathroom break or have a quick smoke, and your car’s range will already be charged to 400 kilometers by the time you return.

Behind this efficiency is BYD’s achievement of bringing mass-produced cars into the era of 1000V high-voltage platforms.

Compared to the current mainstream 800V systems, the 1000V platform not only allows for faster charging limits but also brings lower current loss and higher motor and electronic control efficiency.

According to BYD, its electronic control efficiency has already exceeded 99%. If this can be implemented on a large scale, the biggest drawback of electric vehicles—"charging is slower than refueling"—may truly become a term of the past.

Blade Battery 2.0

Apart from fast charging, long driving range is also a major theme this time.

The second-generation Blade Battery (Blade Battery 2.0) launched by BYD has achieved an energy density of 190-210Wh/kg by introducing lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) material and silicon-carbon anode.

Although this isn't a groundbreaking achievement in materials science, BYD has clearly found a new balance between mass production costs and safety.

This means that flagship sedans like the newly released Seal 08 can directly break through the 1,000 km barrier in pure electric CLTC range.

In the hybrid domain, the appearance of the DM 6.0 system makes fuel consumption figures seem astonishing, with depleted battery fuel consumption controlled at around 2 L/100 km, and a full tank and full charge able to run 2,300 km.

Although we know that experimental data tends to be reduced in real driving scenarios, even with an 80% discount, this kind of long-range performance is still highly appealing for users who frequently need to undertake long-distance journeys.

God’s Eye 5.0

In recent years, BYD has often been criticized for having a "weak spot" when it comes to intelligent driving. But with the launch of the God's Eye 5.0 system, the world's top-selling EV maker is fighting back in the way it knows best: scale.

God’s Eye 5.0 adopts the current most advanced "end-to-end" large model architecture, paired with LiDAR, making its perception and decision-making logic very close to human capabilities.

But what really impressed me is that BYD plans to make this system available for entry-level models.

This approach is very "BYD"; it does not intend to make intelligent driving an unattainable luxury but rather aims to lower development costs through large-scale shipments, making high-level intelligent driving as commonplace as reversing cameras once were.

Summary

Returning to reality, even if Seal 08 is introduced locally, if a 1MW supercharging station cannot be found, the so-called "5 minutes providing 400 km of range" can only remain a theoretical value on the user manual.

BYD promises to provide over 20,000 charging stations in China by 2026, which is a strategy to boost car sales through charging infrastructure.

If this infrastructure model cannot be simultaneously replicated overseas, then the experience of these cutting-edge technologies in the local market will be greatly compromised.
