【PCauto】As a Malaysian, I am convinced that 2025 represents a pivotal juncture for the EV car Malaysia market. With the implementation of supportive policies, the transformation of local brands, and the influx of international manufacturers, Malaysian consumers can anticipate an unprecedented variety of EV options.

EV Car Malaysia will see significant growth in 2025

It is projected that by this year, the adoption rate of EV car Malaysia market will constitute approximately 3% of total automotive production, while hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are expected to account for 5%. This substantial growth is primarily ascribed to two key factors: policy incentives and improvements in infrastructure.

Malaysian EV car road tax policy has undergone several modifications. Presently, electric vehicles enjoy significant tax advantages, including exemptions from road tax until the end of 2025. Starting in 2026, a new road tax framework based on the vehicle's electric output will be operational. However, EVs will continue to benefit from notable road tax reductions compared to conventional fuel-powered vehicles.

On the other hand, the proliferation of charging stations across Malaysia is advancing rapidly. The national power cooperation's (PLN) strategic network plan for charging facilities is beginning to yield tangible results. Currently, Malaysia boasts many public charging stations, with their numbers steadily increasing. Data indicates an ambitious plan to establish 10,000 public charging facilities nationwide by 2025, while there are presently 1,200 operational charging stations, comprising 1,000 AC charging points and 200 DC fast charging stations.

Best EV Car in Malaysia: Proton EV Car & Perodua EV Car

Although the EV car Malaysia market is still relatively nascent compared to conventional fuel vehicles, there exists a number of noteworthy options. International brands such as Tesla, famed for their cutting-edge battery technology, are particularly popular among tech-enthusiast consumers, whereas BYD is recognized for its commendable price performance with models like M6 being favored by family consumers. However, I would advocate for consideration of local brands such as Proton and Perodua.

Proton, as a leading domestic automotive player in Malaysia, has made significant strides with the launch of its e.MAS 7, marking a significant foray of a national brand into the new energy sector. Proton e.MAS 7 is constructed upon Geely's Galaxy E5 platform, ensuring robust technology and quality standards.

Proton envisions establishing a network of 30 dealerships across Malaysia by 2025 to further enhance its sales presence, thereby facilitating convenient access for consumers to purchase and experience e.MAS 7. Given its local heritage, competitive pricing, and commendable specifications, Proton e.MAS 7 is expected to carve a niche within the Malaysian Ev car market.

Perodua's forthcoming B-class electric hatchback, slated for release by the end of this year, is also generating considerable interest. Perodua has long garnered favor among consumers in Malaysia due to its economical and practical vehicles. This new electric hatchback will uphold that tradition, with a pronounced emphasis on cost-effectiveness and a targeted monthly production of 500 units.

Additionally, the influence of China EV car in Malaysia is gradually growing. Notable players such as BYD and Great Wall Motors (GMW) have established a presence in the Malaysian automotive market. BYD’s ATTO 3, renowned for its impressive driving range and rich technological features, has become a familiar sight on Malaysian thoroughfares. T he Ora series from GMW has similarly garnered positive consumer reception for its stylish aesthetics.

On a global scale, Xiaomi Ev car has captured significant attention. Although Xiaomi's EV has yet to be formally launched in Malaysia, the company's achievements in the smartphone and smart home domains are noteworthy. Xiaomi is now poised to infuse its advanced technology concepts and innovative prowess into the automotive arena.

Xiaomi Ev car is anticipated to incorporate a self-developed intelligent driving system and advanced battery technology, promising users an enhanced driving experience. Upon its entry into the Malaysian market, it is forecasted to attract a number of young consumers and technology enthusiasts, drawn by its distinctive technological appeal.

In a word, EV car Malaysia market is set to undergo considerable transformation by 2025. With an increasing number of brands entering the landscape and persistent advancements in technology, consumers will enjoy a broader selection of vehicles. Whether in pursuit of high-performance luxury models or practical, cost-effective alternatives, consumers will find their suitable products catering to diverse needs in the evolving market.
