Newly Updated Tesla Model S & X: More Functions, Longer Range
AshleyJun 17, 2025, 02:27 PM

【PCauto】It has been decades since Tesla launched the Model S and Model X. These two flagship models have now been updated. However, this facelift is not a revolutionary overhaul but rather focuses on detailed optimizations aimed at enhancing daily usability and range.
According to the information released by Tesla, the 2026 Model S and Model X have undergone improvements in multiple areas, including design, interior, technological configurations, and range. These changes are based on user feedback and engineering refinements. However, there are also some controversies, such as price increases and the absence of new technologies.
2026 Model S and Model X Feature Subtle Exterior Changes
The Model S Plaid version features a more aggressive front bumper and rear diffuser design, which not only enhances vehicle’s stability at high speeds but also optimizes aerodynamic efficiency. The wheel have also been updated, with the Model S now offering 19-inch and 21-inch wheels, and the Model X providing 20-inch and 22-inch wheels. These improved wheels help reduce wind resistance, thereby improving overall energy efficiency.

Additionally, Tesla has introduced two new paint colors: Frost Blue and Diamond Black. While these changes do not significantly alter the overall appearance, they reflect Tesla's focus on detail and continuation of the brand's minimalist aesthetic.

Interior Receives Notable Updates
The 2026 model introduces a multi-color ambient lighting system supporting dynamic animation effects, covering the instrument panel, center console, and door areas, enhancing the visual appeal of the cabin.

Meanwhile, Tesla has improved sound insulation materials and active noise cancellation technology, effectively reducing wind and road noise for a quieter and more comfortable interior environment.
Space optimization is also noteworthy, with the Model X's third-row space increasing by 2.7% and cargo capacity expanding to 94.5 cubic feet—an improvement of approximately 2.5 cubic feet over the previous generation, which provides greater practicality for family users. These interior refinements aim to improve daily driving comfort and convenience rather than pursue luxury.

Regarding technological configurations, the 2026 Model S and Model X have incorporated front bumper cameras to expand the field of view, laying the groundwork for future equipment of full self-driving capabilities such as Banish and Smart Summon. The adaptive LED headlights have also been upgraded with new AFS that automatically adjusts brightness based on road conditions, enhancing nighttime driving safety.
The suspension system has been tuned again with new bushing designs to improve ride comfort, particularly on rough road surfaces. While these technological updates focus on practicality and advanced features, the absence of newer technologies like Cybertruck's 800V architecture or steer-by-wire systems has drawn some criticism.
Performance and Range Improvements Are the Core of Update
In terms of powertrain, the Model S Plaid adopts a tri-motor setup with a total power output of 761kW, achieving 0-96km/h acceleration in just 1.99 seconds. When equipped with optional 21-inch wheels, its top speed can reach 321km/h.

The Model X Plaid also adopts a tri-motor configuration, maintaining its high-performance positioning with a 0-96km/h acceleration time of 2.5 seconds. Its range has been significantly improved, with the Model X Long Range achieving 566km under EPA standards—an increase of 37km over the previous generation.

The Model S Plaid’s range reaches 592km, showing a 32km improvement. Charging capabilities have also been enhanced, supporting 250kW fast charging that can replenish 330km of range in just 15 minutes. These upgrades benefits from improved battery efficiency and motor optimization, directly addressing user demand for extended driving range.
All 2026 Models Show $5,000 Price Increase
To be specific, the Model S Long Range starts at $86,630, the Model S Plaid starts at $101,630, the Model X Long Range starts at $91,630, and the Model X Plaid starts at $106,630. It's worth noting that due to engineering constraints, the 2026 models will not offer right-hand-drive versions, which means the Model S and Model X series cannot be sold in right-hand-drive markets.

No Upgrades to FSD HW4 or AMD Ryzen Infotainment
Here are user feedback and controversy about this update. Some users pointed out that Tesla failed to upgrade core hardware components like the FSD HW4 or AMD Ryzen infotainment system, lacking innovation. Meanwhile, the price increases without major technological breakthroughs have sparked debates about value for money.

Sales show that in 2024, global deliveries of the Model S and Model X reached only 85,000 units, far below the 1.4 million units of Model 3 and Model Y, reflecting the market challenges facing premium models. Nevertheless, the Plaid versions remain industry benchmarks in performance, continuing to attract consumers pursuing speed.
This Update just Focuses on Details Refinements
The updates to the 2026 Tesla Model S and Model X emphasize detail refinements rather than disruptive innovations. Improved range and enhanced comfort stand as the two models’ primary advantages, but the lack of new technologies and price increases may limit their appeal.

For existing owners, these upgrades deliver a more practical driving experience; for potential buyers, value-for-money considerations will be crucial. Through this update, Tesla has demonstrated the continued vitality of its classic models, but whether it can remain competitive in the future will depend on market reception.
