[PCauto] Great Wall Motor's electric brand ORA is about to launch its first pure electric SUV. The final name has not yet been determined, with candidates including "ORA Cat" or "ORA 5".

The new car might be named ORA 5 to appeal to the global market

According to MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) filing, the nameplate options for the new car include "ORA Cat," "ORA 5," and "ORAi5."

In a user poll initiated by Brand General Manager Lu Wenbin, "ORA 5" leads with 784 votes and is likely to become the final name due to its simplicity and memorability, better aligning with a globalized strategy. In this article, we will temporarily refer to this new model as ORA 5.

ORA 5 is ORA's first new model since 2022 and Great Wall Motor's first pure electric SUV as a "SUV expert," filling the gap in ORA's SUV lineup.

ORA 5 continues the design language of the ORA family

In terms of design, ORA 5 continues the rounded and retro styling of the ORA family, featuring round headlights, a closed grille, and a trapezoidal air intake at the front. The rear adopts a through-type taillight design, creating a refined and dynamic overall aesthetic, reminiscent of brands such as MINI and Smart.

The vehicle's dimensions are 4471mm in length, 1833mm or 1844mm in width, and 1641mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2720mm. It belongs to the compact SUV category and is noticeably larger than the ORA Good Cat (with a wheelbase of 2650mm), offering significantly improved rear space, which can meet the needs of family users.

Intelligent Driving Features: A Core Highlight

The new vehicle comes standard with a LiDAR (Heisai ATX model optional), paired with multiple cameras and radar sensors, supporting advanced driving assistance functions such as urban memory parking, highway NOA, and traffic light recognition.

It is expected to feature Great Wall Motor's self-developed Coffee Pilot Ultra system, which may achieve map-free NOA functionality, enhancing the intelligent driving experience.

Shared Technology with the MINI ACEMAN

The new car is likely based on Great Wall Motor's latest pure-electric platform and will share technology with the electric MINI ACEMAN, but its smart capabilities may be more prominent.

The charging port is located on the right front fender, supporting both fast and slow charging. These configurations are designed to meet daily usage needs and enhance practicality and convenience.

In terms of the powertrain, it is equipped with Fengchuan Transmission's 150kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, paired with Fengchuan Energy's lithium iron phosphate short-blade battery, with a maximum speed of 170 km/h and an estimated CLTC range of over 500 kilometers.

ORA's New SUV to Compete with BYD ATTO 3

ORA plans to shift its focus beyond the female market and adopt an "Urban Lifestyle" positioning. The introduction of the ORA 5 is designed to attract a broader consumer base. It retains design elements popular with its existing female user base while incorporating more contemporary and bold styling cues, effectively balancing the tastes of younger consumers with the expectations of international markets.

Emphasizing technological prowess and practical functionality, ORA plans to drive sales growth with four new models (including this SUV), supporting Great Wall Motor's electrification strategy.

With this strategy, the ORA 5 will compete against rivals like the BYD ATTO 3 (Yuan Plus) and AION Y. However, with its advanced LiDAR and superior interior space, the ORA 5 has the potential to differentiate itself from these competitors. In the Chinese market, consumer anticipation for the ORA 5 centers heavily on its LiDAR system, which is perceived as a critical high-end feature.

Further specifications and details regarding the ORA 5 are awaiting official confirmation. Given that the vehicle has been listed in an MIIT filing, the ORA 5 is expected to launch in China in the near future, with a potential global rollout (e.g., in Europe) possibly following in the next year.
