Proton Xchange: Get RM2000 Extra for Your Old Vehicle!

【PCauto】In response to the government's policies on improving road safety and promoting sustainable mobility, while supporting the nation's 2050 carbon neutrality goal, Proton has launched the Proton Xchange Programme.

This program encourages owners to scrap their old vehicles over 15 years old that aren't safe to drive anymore. Any brand can be traded in for a new Proton model, helping reduce pollution from older, high-emission vehicles.

The Xchange Programme is a collaboration between Proton and Car Medic Sdn Bhd – an environmentally certified vehicle disposal specialist and appointed contractor of the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR).

Proton has allocated RM4.8 million for this initiative, which will run until the end of December 2025.

If you own a vehicle aged 15 years or older (including sedans, MPVs, trucks, and other types - all brands are eligible), and the car's condition makes repairs uneconomical or unsafe, you can participate in this program. When trading in for a new Proton, you'll need to prepare:

  • Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC)
  • JPJK1KD form issued by JPJ (confirming the old vehicle's deregistration)
  • Certificate of Destruction (COD) provided by Car Medic

For incentives, owners will receive a RM2,000 discount subsidy for each successful Proton purchase, applicable to any Proton model. The Transport Minister has additionally announced that Proton vehicles purchased through this program will be exempt from road tax for the first year.

Eligible Proton models include both fuel-powered and new energy vehicles, even the upcoming e.MAS 5 that hasn't been launched yet.

Currently, Proton offers 8 models for sale. The most popular model is Saga - a classic entry-level sedan priced between RM34,800 to RM44,800, with monthly sales reaching around 6,000 units.

Persona is a sedan with a larger space and larger engine displacement (1.6L), priced at RM47,800 – RM58,300. It matches everyday family travel and city commuting.

S70 is a C-Segment sedan, equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharger and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. It comes in four versions and is priced at RM73,000 – RM 94,800. It has received a 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP.

X50 is a compact SUV, priced at RM86,300 – RM113,300, with a good passability and broad field of vision, using a 1.5L turbocharged engine.

X70 is a mid-size SUV, priced at RM98,800 – RM126,800, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and other driving aids, spaciously comfortable seats, and high-quality interior materials.

The electric vehicle Proton eMas 7 is priced between RM109,800 – RM123,800, featuring a CTB battery-integrated body design, equipped with short knife batteries. The WLTP cruising range reaches up to 410km. The interior is fitted with a 15.4-inch floating control screen with a 2.5K resolution and a 16-speaker sound system.

The models offered by Proton can meet the needs of most car users. In terms of vehicle replacement services, Car Medic can pick up cars, assist with towing, and handle all necessary documents, saving the trouble of doing it by yourself.
