Is the Ford Ranger V6 about to enter Malaysia?

[PCauto] Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) Ford, the official importer and distributor of Ford vehicles in Malaysia, has recently released a mysterious teaser. Based on the teaser image and available information, the market speculates that the new model could be an all-new variant of the Ford Ranger V6.

In other words, the new Ranger Wildtrak powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine will make its official debut in the Malaysian market on August 23. Marketed under the slogan “Power Redefined,” this high-performance pickup is set to fill a gap in the local market for powerful diesel pickups.

Powertrain Performance as the Ford Ranger V6’s Key Highlight

The model is equipped with a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine producing 250 PS (246 HP) and 600 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and an electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system.

This powertrain has already been proven in the Thai market, with its low-end, high-torque characteristics—delivering peak torque from as low as 1,750 rpm—making it particularly well-suited for the diverse and often challenging road conditions in Southeast Asia. For reference, the model is priced at THB 1,519,000 in Thailand (approximately RM197,118).

From a features standpoint, the Ranger Wildtrak V6 will be positioned as the flagship variant. Exterior highlights include adaptive matrix LED headlights, 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels (fitted with 255/65 tyres), and a prominent “V6” badge on the vehicle’s sides.

In terms of practicality, it retains useful features such as a 12V/230V power outlet in the cargo bed and an assisted tailgate. Inside, the 12.4-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather-wrapped eight-way power-adjustable seats, and independent air-conditioning for both front and rear rows further underscore its premium positioning.

It is worth noting that the current Ranger lineup in Malaysia is limited to the 2.0L EcoBlue four-cylinder diesel engine—available in single-turbo (170 PS/405 Nm) and bi-turbo (210 PS/500 Nm) configurations—and the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 petrol engine in the Ranger Raptor. The introduction of the Wildtrak V6 not only broadens the product range but also delivers a performance edge over its rival, the Toyota Hilux GR-S.

Although diesel vehicle sales in Malaysia have recently declined due to adjustments in the fuel subsidy policy, the Ranger Wildtrak V6—thanks to its unique performance positioning—still has the potential to attract professional users and performance enthusiasts.

Compared with the current Wildtrak 2.0 Bi-Turbo diesel variant priced at RM171,888, the V6 version is expected to be priced close to the RM200,000 mark.

As the launch date approaches, more details on localized specifications and final pricing will be gradually revealed. The arrival of this V6-powered beast is set to reshape the competitive landscape of Malaysia’s high-performance pickup market, while offering consumers a broader range of choices. For pickup enthusiasts in pursuit of extreme performance, the official debut on August 23 is certainly an event worth anticipating.
