[PCauto] The BMW 3 Series has long existed in a state of subtle transition.

Until today, the all-new BMW i3, codenamed NA0, has officially made its global design premiere.

Unlike the current market version of the i3, which is based on the G20 fuel platform and sold only in specific markets, the new generation i3 is born from the Neue Klasse platform specifically developed for pure electric drive.

According to BMW's release schedule, today's debut focuses on showcasing its avant-garde design language and core technical architecture.

The new vehicle is expected to start production at BMW's Munich factory in Germany in the second half of 2026 and will subsequently be launched in global markets.

NA0 Retains Vision Neue Klasse Concept Car Design Language

The iconic grille has transitioned from vertical to horizontal extension and integrates lighting functions and sensor arrays, merging with the tilted LED daytime running lights on both sides.

The side profile is extremely streamlined, eliminating complex waistlines while retaining the classic Hofmeister Kink. This design not only pays homage to the BMW 2002 of the 1970s but also showcases the minimalist aesthetic of the digital age.

Performance Improvements Under 800V Architecture

The all-new BMW i3 showcases the characteristics of the Neue Klasse platform. The debut model is expected to be the i3 50 xDrive, equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering a combined output of 345 kW (approximately 469 hp) and a peak torque of 645 Nm.

Thanks to the 800V high-voltage architecture and sixth-generation eDrive technology, the new model supports a maximum of 400 kW DC fast charging.

This means that, under ideal conditions, it takes just 10 minutes to replenish approximately 350 kilometers of range, while the charging process from 10% to 80% can be completed in 21 minutes.

Battery technology has also undergone a qualitative change. The new car adopts an all-new cylindrical cell (46 mm in diameter), which increases energy density by more than 20%.

With significantly optimized aerodynamic design, the WLTP range of the i3 50 xDrive is expected to exceed 800 kilometers, and even under the stricter U.S. EPA standard, its range will easily surpass 640 kilometers.

For performance enthusiasts, BMW is also developing the more powerful i3 M60 xDrive and even a fully electric M3, the latter of which may feature a quad-motor system with an output exceeding an astonishing 800 hp.

Heart of Joy and Revolutionary Cabin Design

In the field of driving dynamics that BMW prides itself on, the new generation i3 introduces a high-performance computing platform named Heart of Joy.

This system deeply integrates the drive units and driving dynamics logic, with processing speeds 10 times faster than the previous generation system. The coordination of power distribution, suspension response, and brake energy recovery in the vehicle will be more refined, striving to recapture the iconic driving feel of the 3 Series in the electric era.

The transformation of the cabin interior is equally radical.

BMW has completely eliminated the traditional instrument cluster and replaced it with the BMW Panoramic Vision.

This technology uses the dark-coated area along the lower edge of the windshield to project driving information, navigation, and entertainment content across the entire span between the A-pillars.

With the 17.9-inch floating central touch screen and the multifunctional steering wheel with haptic feedback, the iDrive X system significantly simplifies physical buttons, aiming to keep the driver's eyes on the road at all times.

What will the BMW i3 price be?

Considering its positioning and technical specifications, the starting price of the i3 50 xDrive in the international market is expected to be around $60,000, approximately 235,000 MYR.
