The registration photos of the new BYD BAO 5 have appeared on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT). From the registration information, it can be seen that many technological configurations have been added, especially the drone cabin on the roof.

The new BAO 5 still maintains the style of a rugged off-road SUV and doesn't have too many changes compared to the previous model. In terms of dimensions, its length, width, and height are 4,890×1,970×2,015 millimeters respectively, and the wheelbase reaches 2,800 millimeters.
The front bumper of this new car has a new design. The protruding decorative parts on both sides are removed, and the upper part also adopts a body-color matching design. The side anti-scratch plates and the rear bumper are treated in the same way, making the whole vehicle look more concise and imposing. On the side of the body, in addition to the newly added drone cabin which is very eye-catching, the exterior door handles are also used on the doors, which is not only practical but also adds a bit of a technological feel.

Equipping a drone cabin on the roof is a rather rare innovation in the automotive industry. When driving the BAO 5 to the countryside, it can record the scenery and also scout the road conditions ahead in advance. Moreover, the design of the drone cabin is very ingenious, perfectly integrating with the body without affecting the overall aesthetics and aerodynamic performance.

In addition to the drone cabin, the new BAO 5 is equipped with a lidar. According to BYD's previous strategy of popularizing intelligent driving across all its models, the BAO 5 should be using DiPilot 600. The lidar, combined with the three-mirror camera inside the front windshield, the side-rear camera on the front fender, and the millimeter-wave radar and other configurations, can bring the intelligent driving to a rather high level. Whether it is in the congested traffic conditions on urban roads or during long-distance driving on the highway, it can be more relaxed and safer.
In terms of power, the new BAO 5 still uses a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system. The maximum power of the 1.5T engine is 143 kilowatts, and the maximum power of the front and rear drive motors is 200kW and 285kW respectively. The rear axle differential lock is standard across the whole range, and an electric center differential lock is equipped. The mid-to-high-end models also have a front axle differential lock, supporting the low-speed four-wheel drive (4L) mode and the BAO 5-style U-turn. In terms of range, it is matched with a 31.8kWh battery, with a CLTC pure electric range of 125 kilometers and a comprehensive range of up to 1,200 kilometers. It can use electricity for daily commuting and a combination of electricity and fuel for long-distance travel.
