The new Haval H6 is on sale in China, starting at RM76,500. When will it come to Malaysia?
AshleyJun 20, 2024, 10:04 AM
On June 19th, the fourth-generation HAVAL H6 was officially launched in China. This time, the models on the market include two displacements of 1.5T and 2.0T, a total of 5 models, with a price range of 117,900-143,900 yuan. Compared with the starting price of the old model of 98,900 yuan, the price of the new car has risen. Not only can this price not roll up the competitors, but it can’t even roll past the terminal discount of more than 20,000 yuan from its brother HAVAL DARGO. Speaking of HAVAL H6, it was once the ace model of GWM. However, in recent years, HAVAL H6 has been too complacent, and has not responded quickly in terms of intelligence and new energy, which has inevitably resulted in a continuous decline in market share. The launch of the fourth-generation HAVAL H6 is launched in such an adverse environment. For HAVAL, the new generation of H6 will be the key to the future success or failure of the brand.

When GWM CGO Li Ruifeng spent a lot of time criticizing price rolling and bottom-price competition at the press conference, the author had a premonition that the new HAVAL H6 would not be cheap, but he did not expect it to be so outrageous. Although the new car is not without “rolling” the price, combined with various car purchasing policies, the price of the new car can come to 103,900-129,900 yuan, but this price still cannot compete with competitors.
What is even more regrettable is that at this new car release conference, HAVAL H6 still did not bring too many new things to consumers. At other brand launch events, words such as "first", "brand new", "leading" and even "far ahead" will appear frequently, but they were not mentioned in the more than one hour of product promotion of HAVAL H6. The most valuable upgrade of the new car is just adding 9 speakers, replacing the WEY brand 2.0T+9DCT powertrain, and adopting the warm-shift shifting structure. But these improvements can only be said to be better than nothing, especially the 2.0T engine, which is basically not considered by the main consumers of HAVAL H6.
For the bestselling 1.5T model, although the entry-level model has improved configuration, it is only 12,000 yuan lower than competitors such as SONG PLUS DM-i, which has a starting price of 129,800 yuan. It should be known that SONG PLUS DM-i also enjoys new energy policies exempted from purchase tax, and its later usage cost is even lower. As for power, it goes without saying that SONG PLUS can completely crush the 1.5T version of HAVAL H6. In terms of configuration, we still use the entry-level models of the two products as examples. Although HAVAL H6 has auxiliary driving configurations such as transparent chassis, tracking reversing, and automatic parking, SONG PLUS DM-i has more obvious advantages. Not only does it have practical and convenient configurations such as electric tailgate, battery external charging, second-row seat back adjustment, and dual-zone air conditioning, but it also has more high-end configurations such as privacy glass. Overall, it is more cost-effective for consumers to pay an extra 12,000 yuan.

No novelty in the changes of the new car
The fourth generation HAVAL H6 has been adjusted in terms of appearance, interior, and power, but overall, there is not much novelty. According to the usual strict standards, the new car can't be considered a thorough generational change, at most, it can be regarded as a mid-term major facelift. This is also consistent with HAVAL's consistent style for the H6 model. After all, it was once a model with a large sales base, so it is understandable that the brand tries to be careful with every adjustment to ensure nothing goes wrong. However, such a method and style will inevitably result in HAVAL H6's conservative changes, giving people a feeling of lack of aggressiveness.
The all-new HAVAL H6 has not changed much in its overall posture and lines in appearance. The main changes come from the design of the front face and the attack. The front grille is larger and adopts a scaled design style. The headlight group on both sides is also redesigned, and the vertical daytime running lights make the front face look fuller.

The side shape of the body is simpler, the window glass becomes larger and the field of view is wider. In terms of size, the new car's wheelbase remains the same as the old model's 2738mm, but the length has increased by 58mm, reaching 4703mm. The rear part abandons the design of the full-width taillight group and instead adopts the conventional horizontal narrow strip light group. The brand's English logo is added in the center, which has good recognition.

Although the design of the fourth-generation HAVAL H6's exterior has many detail highlights, overall there is not much novelty. For example, the scale armor-style grille, vertical daytime running lights and other designs, are also used by many other car companies. In contrast, there are very few changes in wheelbase and size, which indicates that there has been no thought of major changes in the overall design of this car, and it still uses the original platform scheme.

In terms of interiors, the all-new HAVAL H6 has many adjustments, but most of them are not fresh. For example, physical buttons are cancelled, and arm-hugging shift is adopted. The equipped with a 10.25-inch full LED instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central control screen, are not the first to be seen either. In terms of intelligence, it is equipped with the latest smart car system, built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155, supporting voice recognition wake-up, HICAR and ICCOA phone interconnection, app store and other functions. In addition, the new car is also equipped with a 9-inch full-color HUD display, 50W wireless charging, and front seat heating/ventilation functions. It is worth mentioning that HAVAL has completely upgraded the sound system that users have been complaining about on the fourth-generation HAVAL H6, adding a subwoofer to increase the number of speakers to 9 compared to the old model.

In terms of power, the all-new HAVAL H6 has two power systems. The main selling model still uses the old 1.5T engine, and the new power system is the 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinder engine always used by WEY products. Compared with the old H6's 2.0T engine, the parameters have been improved, with the maximum power increased from 155 kW to 170 kW, and the transmission system has been upgraded to a 9-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, with a combined fuel consumption of 8.1L/100km. The 1.5T model has a maximum power adjustment of 130 kW and the transmission system continues to match a 7-speed drenching dual-clutch gearbox. In terms of chassis, it still uses the form of a front McPherson type rear multi-link suspension.
