[PCauto] Toyota has officially launched the 2026 Corolla Hatchback in the U.S. market and also announced the FX Special Edition model, a limited edition of 1,600 units designed to pay tribute to the classic FX16 model of the 1980s.
The 2026 Corolla Hatchback combines retro design elements with modern technological features and is expected to be delivered in the U.S. market in the fall of 2025. The 2026 Corolla Hatchback is available in the U.S. market with three trim levels: SE, FX Edition, and XSE.
The SE version starts at $24,180 (approximately 103,000 MYR),
FX Edition is priced at $26,780 (approximately 114,000 MYR),
XSE is available for $27,175 (approximately 115,000 MYR).
Corolla Hatchback FX Edition Inspired by the 1980s FX16
Compared to the standard Corolla Hatchback, the Corolla Hatchback FX Edition deserves more mention as this special version's design inspiration comes directly from the FX16 model of the 1980s.
In terms of appearance, it features a two-tone paint scheme, including a combination of metallic black body with a silver roof, as well as 18-inch gloss white-finished alloy wheels and a black rear spoiler. These elements not only enhance visual impact but also improve aerodynamic performance.

Both the front and rear of the vehicle feature exclusive FX badges, paying homage to the classic while showcasing its unique character. As for the interior, the new car is equipped with suede sport seats with orange stitching that extends to the door panels, steering wheel, and shift boot.
FX-embroidered floor mats and silver trim further enhance the cabin's retro vibe, while the 7-inch digital instrument cluster offers customizable display layouts to meet the driver’s personalized needs.

FX Edition Still Features a 2.0L Four-Cylinder Engine
The powertrain might disappoint some, as the FX Edition's drivetrain sees no changes. The special FX version is equipped with a 2.0L Dynamic Force four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine producing a maximum output of 169 horsepower (171 PS), paired with a simulated 10-speed CVT transmission.
This engine, based on Toyota's TNGA-C platform, has a combined fuel economy of approximately 14 km/L (33 MPG) and an EPA estimate of 35 MPG combined.
The power delivery is smooth and efficient, suitable for urban commuting and long-distance driving, but the lack of additional tuning for the FX version may leave some performance enthusiasts feeling disappointed.

2026 Corolla Hatchback equipped with TSS 3.0
All models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes the Pre-Collision System (PCS with Pedestrian Detection), Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA with Steering Assist), and Road Sign Assist (RSA).

The newly added Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert has also become a standard feature, enhancing driving safety.
In terms of the multimedia system, the 8-inch touchscreen is equipped with Toyota Audio Multimedia, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 30-day trial of the 4G hotspot and streaming services.
The XSE version offers an optional JBL Premium Audio system, while the FX Edition additionally includes wireless charging functionality.

Corolla Hatchback FX Highlights Retro Charm
The 2026 Corolla Hatchback FX Edition, although lacking powertrain upgrades, may attract collectors and daily users with its rich features and limited edition status.
As the automotive industry transitions to electrification, such limited-edition fuel-powered models may become increasingly rare and are worth our attention.
