Toyota plans to recall multiple models in North America, including pickups and SUVs, citing potential risks in the transmission system

According to foreign media reports, Toyota is planning to recall multiple models in the North American market in two separate recalls. The affected vehicles include pickup trucks, various SUV models, and even some Lexus models. The reason for the recall is a safety issue related to the transmission system, and notifications to affected vehicle owners will be sent out in April.

One of the recalls involves the pickup truck model Toyota Tacoma, specifically the 2022-2023 models, with approximately 381,000 vehicles affected. This recall is initiated due to debris causing improper fastening, potentially leading to the separation of the half-shaft assembly from the half-shaft housing in the affected vehicles. The separation of the axle could result in a decrease in vehicle stability and braking performance, thereby increasing the risk of collision accidents.

Another recall involves a subset of vehicles, including certain 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra, Lexus LX600, and 2023-2024 Toyota Sequoia models. A total of 281,663 SUVs are affected by this recall. The identified issue with these vehicles occurs when they are in neutral and the brake is not engaged. In such situations, there is a potential for unintended vehicle movement due to a delay in disengaging the clutch plates in the transmission. The speed of the unintended vehicle movement can reach up to 6.4 kilometers per hour, which will increase the risk of collisions. The specific corrective measure following the recall involves dealers updating the vehicles' ECU software to prevent the occurrence of the aforementioned danger.
