Specs

In the luxury MPV segment, consumer demand for space, comfort, and brand reliability has always been the core focus. As a popular choice in this market, the 2024 Toyota Vellfire has been upgraded in terms of configuration and details, clearly aiming to consolidate its market position. This time, we obtained the 2.5L gasoline model to test whether its static performance aligns with its luxury positioning, whether its dynamic driving can balance both family and business needs, and whether the upgrades genuinely enhance daily usability.

From the exterior, the 2024 Vellfire maintains the family-style bold design, with an overall style leaning towards stability and high recognition. The front features a large trapezoidal grille adorned with chrome trim, creating a strong visual impact. The sharp design of the LED headlight assemblies on both sides are integrated with the grille, providing a high level of recognition when illuminated. The smooth lines on the side of the body, combined with a length of 5005mm and a wheelbase of 3000mm, ensure ample interior space. The 19-inch multi-spoke wheels paired with 225/55R19 tires meet luxury standards while also offering comfort. At the rear, the horizontally-arranged LED tail lights echo the design of the front, while the chrome trim on the rear bumper enhances the sense of refinement. The overall exterior conveys a balance between business and family-oriented stability.

Stepping inside, the luxurious and high-tech feel of the interior immediately stands out. The interior features a dual-color combination of dark and beige tones, with the center console wrapped in soft-touch materials. Certain areas are accented with wood-grain trim and metal accents, offering a delicate tactile experience. The 14-inch central touchscreen is located on the upper part of the dashboard, operating smoothly and supporting smartphone connectivity. The fully digital instrument panel is clear and supports multiple display modes, providing a wealth of information. The front seats offer 8-way electric adjustments with memory and heating functions, while the co-pilot seat has 4-way electric adjustments with memory and heating features as well, ensuring a comfortable seating experience. The second row is the highlight, featuring Ottoman captain chairs that support multi-angle adjustment and include leg rests, making long trips fatigue-free. The third-row seats can be split-folded in 50:50 and 60:40 ratios, easily expanding trunk space and providing high flexibility for daily use. Additionally, the interior is equipped with a 15-speaker JBL sound system, rear LCD screens, 220V power outlets, and a panoramic sunroof, offering very rich features.

In terms of space, the Vellfire's 3000mm wheelbase ensures ample legroom for both the front and rear rows. A 175cm-tall passenger sitting in the front row has a headroom of one fist and two fingers; when the second-row seats are adjusted to a comfortable position, legroom exceeds two fists and headroom is about one fist. Even with three adults in the third row, legroom and headroom do not feel cramped. Regarding storage space, the central armrest box in the front row has a large capacity, and the door-side storage slots can hold water bottles and small items. Each second-row seat has its own cup holder and storage compartment, while the third row also features individual cup holders and power outlets, making it highly practical. The trunk can easily accommodate several suitcases in its standard configuration, and with the third row folded down, it can load larger items without any issue.

As for performance, the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine delivers a maximum power of 182PS and a maximum torque of 235N·m, paired with a CVT gearbox. During daily driving, the startup is smooth, and the low-rev output is sufficient for family use. During acceleration, the CVT transmission offers great smoothness without noticeable jerks; however, during high-speed overtaking, a heavier throttle input is needed, and the power response can feel slightly delayed. Driving options include Eco, Normal, and Sport modes. In Sport mode, throttle response becomes more aggressive, but the overall performance remains focused on comfortable family use and is more suitable for steady driving.

The handling and chassis performance align with the positioning of an MPV. The steering wheel is light, making it suitable for urban driving; the chassis adopts a front MacPherson and rear double-wishbone independent suspension, tuned for comfort. When driving over speed bumps or uneven roads, the suspension effectively absorbs vibrations, ensuring passengers inside the car do not feel significant bumps. At high speeds, the body stability is good, and body roll is well-controlled when cornering, avoiding any floaty sensation. In terms of fuel consumption, the official combined fuel consumption is 9L/100km. In actual tests, fuel consumption in urban conditions is about 10-11L/100km, and on highways, it is about 7-8L/100km. For a 2.1-ton MPV, the fuel efficiency is fairly average.

In terms of driving comfort, Vellfire's performance is praiseworthy. The cabin sound insulation is excellent, with wind noise and tire noise kept at low levels during high-speed driving; the seats offer great wrap-around and support, especially the second-row Ottoman seats, which are exceptionally comfortable. The safety features are comprehensive, including 6 standard airbags, lane departure warning, active braking, ACC adaptive cruise control, and 360-degree panoramic view, providing drivers with a sufficient sense of safety.

Overall, the core highlights of the 2024 Toyota Vellfire 2.5L lie in its luxurious interior features, spacious cabin, and comfortable ride experience. Compared with models in the same class, it has a clear advantage in second-row comfort and rich configurations, while its pricing remains relatively reasonable, offering good value for money. This car is suitable for consumers who prioritize family use, need ample space, and value comfort. It can easily handle daily family use and business receptions. If you are looking for an MPV that balances luxury, space, and reliability, the Vellfire is a good choice.

Owner of 2024 Toyota Vellfire 2.5
As an owner of the 2024 Vellfire 2.5, after driving it for 3 months and nearly 5000 kilometers, let me share my real experience in Malaysia! Firstly, the performance deserves full marks! Although it's a 2.5 NA engine, it follows other vehicles smoothly in the KL traffic jams, and the CVT transmission has no jerkiness at all. On weekends, when taking my family to Genting Highlands, the power output during uphill climbs is also very linear, without feeling like "pressing the accelerator only to hear noise without movement." The steering precision is also just right. While switching lanes on the LDP highway, it feels very stable and not like a car weighing over 2 tons. This was a pleasant surprise. The interior gets 4 stars. Overall, the quality is excellent. The leather seats feel comfortable to the touch, and the second-row Ottoman seats are practically a lifesaver for long trips—last week, I took my parents to Penang; during the 3-hour drive, they could lie down comfortably without feeling tired at all. However, the physical buttons below the central control screen are a bit small, making blind operations during driving occasionally imperfect. If they could make these bigger, it would be even better. In terms of safety, it also gets 4 stars. The standard ACC adaptive cruise control was extremely helpful on the North-South Highway, maintaining the following distance very precisely. The 360-degree camera is a lifesaver when parking in KL's narrow alleys—it makes even curbs clearly visible. However, there was one instance during rainy weather when the lane-keeping assist occasionally "went haywire," becoming less effective at recognizing lane markings. I hope this can be optimized through future OTA updates. Overall, as a family MPV, it’s truly outstanding, especially for family outings, which is very common in Malaysia!

As the owner of the 2024 Vellfire 2.5, having driven it in Malaysia for three months, let’s talk about the interior and exterior! In terms of the exterior, while it’s not the kind of design that stuns you at first glance, the actual car looks much better than in photos! The large chrome grille paired with the LED headlights makes it quite recognizable in Kuala Lumpur’s morning traffic, especially at night when the automatic headlights are on, giving it a premium feel. The body lines are smooth, and although the 5-meter-long body requires a bit of caution when navigating the narrow alleys of George Town in Penang, the proportions are balanced. When parked in a shopping mall, quite a few passersby give it a second look, which I find quite satisfying. As for the interior, what surprised me the most is how well-equipped it is! The 14-inch central control screen operates smoothly, and the JBL sound system makes listening to Malay songs during traffic jams extremely enjoyable. The front seats come with heating and memory functions—quite comfortable to use during the occasional temperature drop in Kuala Lumpur. The Ottoman boss chair in the rear is simply amazing! On a recent family trip to Genting Highlands, my wife and kids sat in the middle row, extended the leg rests, and reclined to enjoy the view along the way. They all commented that it felt even better than flying in business class! One small downside, though, is that the plastic trim below the dashboard tends to attract fingerprints, so it needs frequent cleaning. If this could be improved, it would be perfect. Overall, these two aspects perform remarkably well. A solid 4-star rating! It’s more than adequate for daily family use or business receptions!

As the owner of a 2024 Toyota Vellfire 2.5 and having driven it in Malaysia for almost half a year, let me first talk about the safety aspect. I think giving it a 4 out of 5 is quite fair. On Malaysia's highways, where there can sometimes be heavy traffic and occasional sudden lane changes, its active braking and lane departure warning have been quite helpful — there was one instance on the North-South Expressway when the car in front suddenly braked hard. The system intervened to reduce speed, which gave me a scare but indeed helped avoid a rear-end collision. However, one slight regret is that when driving at low speeds over some bumpy or uneven roads, the stability control system can feel a bit sensitive, occasionally causing slight jolts. If the calibration could be smoother, it would be perfect. Now about the exterior, also 4 out of 5. The design of this car is quite distinctive among MPVs in Malaysia. The large chrome grille paired with LED headlights really stands out, whether you're driving through Kuala Lumpur city center or the beaches in Penang — it does turn heads quite often. However, the black paint I chose, though classy, is quite a hassle to maintain in Malaysia’s sunny weather. Even after just a short while, it’s prone to getting dusty or stained with tree sap, so it requires frequent cleaning. If the dirt resistance of the paint could be improved, it would be even better. Overall, I’m quite satisfied with these two aspects — it’s very suitable for everyday family use or business receptions.

As the owner of the 2024 Vellfire 2.5, after driving it for three months, I like it more and more every day! First of all, the exterior must get full marks — it has an extremely high return rate on the road, especially with that large chrome grille paired with the LED headlights. Whether parked at the KLCC parking lot or taking the kids to Desa ParkCity on weekends, it always catches the eye of passersby. It perfectly balances a sense of business and luxury, and my friends keep saying, "This is the car a boss should drive!" As for performance, I’d give it 4 out of 5. The 2.5L naturally aspirated engine paired with a CVT is pretty comfortable for driving in the city. Whether I’m on the LDP highway or the Penang Bridge, the acceleration is smooth and without jerks, and overtaking is sufficient. However, when fully loaded with seven people and climbing up Genting Highlands, the power does feel a bit weak, requiring a harder press on the gas pedal. Considering the car weighs over two tons, this is understandable, and it’s more than enough for daily family or business use. I’m also very satisfied with the safety features, giving it 4 out of 5. During Malaysia's rainy season, when roads are often wet and slippery, the vehicle stability control has helped me several times. Last time on Jalan Bukit Bintang, I was following a car quite closely, and the forward collision warning suddenly sounded. The automatic braking even helped me decelerate a bit, just narrowly avoiding rear-ending the car ahead! Plus, the 360-degree view camera is particularly convenient for parking in narrow alleys in Kuala Lumpur. With 6 airbags and ACC adaptive cruise control, I also feel very assured driving long-distance trips to Malacca. Overall, this car is really suitable for use in Malaysia — its exterior looks impressive, its performance is adequate for daily needs, and its safety features are reliable. I highly recommend it to friends looking to upgrade to a luxury MPV!
