With the rapid expansion of Malaysia's electric vehicle market, the options for mid-size pure electric SUVs are increasing, but it’s not easy to find a model that truly balances space, configuration, and driving quality. As a new option in this segment, the 2024 Zeekr X Premium RWD stands out with its 2750mm long wheelbase, fully standard intelligent driving assistance, and a price of RM 155,800 — a level of configuration rarely seen among models of similar grade from joint-venture brands at this price. The core purpose of our test drive this time is to verify whether its actual performance lives up to the advantages on paper, and to see if it is sufficient in daily commuting and family travel scenarios.

From a distance, the overall design of the Zeekr X Premium RWD leans towards simplicity and sportiness, with no overly complicated lines. The front features a closed design with the Zeekr logo in the center, while the trapezoidal air intake below adds a sense of layering. The sharp-shaped LED headlight clusters on both sides, with a through-type daytime running light design, are highly recognizable when illuminated. The side profile features smooth lines, with a waistline extending from the front fender to the rear, giving the side a clean look. The 19-inch multi-spoke wheels paired with 235/50 R19 tires visually balance the car's proportions well. At the rear, the LED taillights also adopt a through-type design, echoing the front, and the black trim on the lower rear bumper adds a touch of SUV ruggedness. The overall design is timeless, neither too ostentatious nor too plain.

Stepping inside, the interior materials stand out in its price range, with the dashboard and inner door panels wrapped in soft-touch materials, providing a quality texture wherever your hands touch. The center console is simple in layout, with most functions integrated into a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen. The screen resolution and responsiveness are excellent, and the built-in system supports navigation, Bluetooth, smartphone connectivity, and voice control. The instrument cluster is an 8.8-inch full LCD screen, clearly displaying core data such as speed, range, and driving mode. The inclusion of a HUD (Head-Up Display) improves convenience by reducing the need to frequently look down at the dashboard while driving. For seating, the front row features power-adjustable faux leather seats, which offer good support and are comfortable even on long journeys. Similarly, the rear seats have soft padding, and the legroom is quite generous due to the 2750mm wheelbase. A passenger with a height of 175cm still has about two fists of space between their knees and the front seats. Regarding storage space, the trunk has a standard capacity of 362L, more than enough for two 28-inch suitcases. Folding down the rear seats expands the space, making it suitable for daily family use. The central front armrest box and door storage pockets are also quite practical for storing phones, water bottles, and other small items easily.

In terms of power, the Zeekr X Premium RWD is equipped with a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a maximum power of 200kW (272PS) and a maximum torque of 343Nm. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds according to official data. In actual driving, the power response at start is very immediate, providing an obvious push-back feeling with just a light press on the accelerator. Overtaking or changing lanes during daily commuting is very smooth. It offers three driving modes: eco, standard, and sport. In eco mode, the power output is relatively smooth, making it suitable for daily driving. In sport mode, the throttle response becomes more sensitive, and the acceleration feels more intense, meeting the need for speed on occasion. As for handling, the steering wheel offers moderate resistance and precise direction without noticeable play. The suspension system features a front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent setup, which leans towards comfort without sacrificing support. When driving over speed bumps or bumpy roads, the suspension filters out most vibrations, avoiding a stiff feel. During cornering, the body roll is well-controlled, maintaining excellent overall stability.

During this test drive, we also tested its range and charging performance. The official pure electric range is 446km. We drove half of the distance on city roads and the other half on highways, with the air conditioning and music on throughout the journey. The actual range ended up being around 390km, achieving approximately 87% of the claimed range. This performance is considered above average among electric vehicles in the same class. For fast charging, it takes about 30 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% using a DC fast charger, which is consistent with the official data. Slow charging from 0 to 100% takes 7 hours, making it suitable for overnight home charging. Noise control is also worth mentioning. At low speeds, the motor noise is almost inaudible, and while tire noise and wind noise are present at high speeds, they are within acceptable levels and do not interfere with interior conversations.

Overall, the core advantages of the Zeekr X Premium RWD are clear: First, its high level of configuration — a fully digital instrument cluster, HUD, Yamaha 13-speaker sound system, and Level 2 intelligent driving assistance are all standard features. In contrast, many of these features are optional in similarly priced models like the Volkswagen ID.4 X or Toyota bZ4X. Second, its excellent space performance — the rear seat space provided by its wheelbase ranks among the best in its class. Third, the balance between performance and range is commendable — the acceleration of 5.6 seconds meets occasional thrilling driving needs, and its actual range of 390km can cover most people's weekly commute.

The target audience for this car is very clear: If you are a value-conscious family user in need of an electric vehicle with sufficient space, rich features, easy handling, and peace of mind, it is a good choice. If you are a young person who has just started working and wants a stylish, adequately powered car with decent features for commuting, it also fits the bill. Compared to similar-price models from joint-venture brands, its feature advantages are too significant to ignore; compared to domestic vehicles in the same class, its brand and craftsmanship offer a certain level of assurance.

In summary, the Zeekr X Premium RWD is a mid-sized pure electric SUV with no obvious shortcomings. Its on-paper advantages are well reflected in the actual test drive. At a price of 155,800 MYR, getting this level of product value is indeed a “value king” in its class. If you’re considering a pure electric SUV priced under 200,000 MYR, it’s worth putting on your priority list.

As the owner of a 2024 Zeekr X Premium RWD who has been using the car in Malaysia for half a year, I am most satisfied with its performance and safety features. The 5.6-second 0-100 km/h acceleration is particularly enjoyable for overtaking during the morning rush hour in Kuala Lumpur, and the rear-wheel-drive handling is very agile. In terms of safety, the 7 airbags and full set of active safety systems impressed me; the last time I almost rear-ended someone on the mountain roads in Penang, the emergency braking system intervened just in time and saved my life. The interior materials are quite good, but the rear seat space is a bit cramped. When I took my parents to Malacca for a trip, my dad mentioned that sitting for long periods during the journey made him a bit uncomfortable. Additionally, although the fast charging can fill up to 80% in half an hour, the distribution of charging stations in Malaysia is still not dense enough, so when traveling to the East Coast, it’s necessary to plan the route in advance. However, overall, being able to purchase such an electric SUV for 150,000 ringgit offers great value for money.

Last week, I took my wife and kids to the orchard at the foot of Genting Highlands. After the rain, while climbing uphill and stepping on the accelerator hard, the 0-to-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds performance kicked in instantly. The rear-wheel drive was very stable even on slippery curves, and the 191mm ground clearance handled potholes without scraping the chassis. The 14.6-inch central control screen's navigation was clear, and the YAMAHA sound system was powerful enough for playing children's songs. However, the faux leather seats felt a bit stuffy in summer, and the lack of a ventilation feature loses one point. The 446km range allowed for a round trip with over 100km left, and a quick charge refilled it in half an hour. For daily commuting, charging once a week is enough. This performance and range make it truly worry-free to use in Malaysia.

Drove to the suburbs on the weekend, cornering feels so stable! Even on slippery roads in the rain, it didn’t skid, and the acceleration is super smooth. Love it, love it~
