2025 GAC Emkoo Premium Pro Review

As the demand for design and practicality in the C-class SUV market becomes increasingly segmented, many manufacturers are focusing on addressing the core pain points of young family users—balancing an eye-catching design for daily commuting aesthetics with versatile space and comprehensive features for family travel scenarios. As a new contender in this segment, the 2025 GAC Emkoo Premium Pro showcases its streamlined coupe-SUV design and premium smart features as its core selling points. In this test drive, we primarily focus on its actual space performance, power response, and whether the features truly meet the daily needs of family users.
From the exterior, the Emkoo Premium Pro's coupe-SUV positioning is very clear. The overall lines flow smoothly from the A-pillar to the rear, presenting a sloping fastback stance without the bulkiness of traditional SUVs. The front features a large-sized blacked-out grille paired with sharp LED headlights. The folded lines within the headlights complement the edges of the grille, delivering good recognition. The side profile's waistline extends from the fender to the taillights, and the 19-inch multi-spoke wheels visually elongate the body proportion. The rear's through-type LED taillights are a design highlight; when lit, they form a continuous line. The diffuser-shaped lower section adds a sporty touch, making the overall style youthful but not ostentatious.
Stepping inside, the cabin layout is simple and orderly. The dashboard is covered with soft-touch materials, complemented by silver trim accents, delivering a quality feel commensurate with this price range. The 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel and 10.1-inch central screen form a dual-screen layout, with clear screen resolution and smooth operation. The HUD head-up display is standard and can show speed, navigation, and other information, reducing the frequency of looking down at the dashboard. In terms of configurations, the Emkoo Premium Pro offers plenty: the 12-way power-adjustable driver seat comes with lumbar support, while the 4-way power passenger seat makes adjusting the seating position easy for daily use. The rear row includes independent air conditioning vents and USB ports, and the rear seats support a 60:40 split fold, offering great practicality. For safety features, six airbags, full-speed adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning, and active braking are all standard, making it very friendly for family users.
Space performance is a core demand for C-class SUVs, and the Emkoo Premium Pro has a wheelbase of 2750mm, ensuring ample seating space. A 175cm-tall passenger in the front seat has a headroom clearance of a fist and two fingers; the rear legroom measures two fists, with a headroom clearance of one fist, making it comfortable even for three adults sitting together without feeling cramped. The standard luggage compartment has a volume of 638 liters, easily accommodating two 28-inch suitcases and one 20-inch carry-on suitcase. When the rear seats are folded, the space expands to 1586 liters, effortlessly fitting large items like strollers or folding bicycles.
In terms of performance, the 1.5T turbocharged engine delivers a maximum horsepower of 177 PS and a peak torque of 270 Nm, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. The power response during starts is quite brisk, and pressing the accelerator one-third yields a notable acceleration feel, making it very nimble for daily city commuting. The mid-range acceleration is impressive, as the maximum torque is available at 1400 rpm. When overtaking, a firm press on the accelerator prompts the transmission to downshift promptly, ensuring smooth power delivery without noticeable lags. There are three driving modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport. In Sport mode, throttle responsiveness is enhanced, and the revs are maintained above 2000 rpm, ideal for scenarios requiring rapid acceleration.
The handling and chassis performance are aligned with the positioning of a family SUV. The steering wheel has moderate weight with precise directional control; it feels light at low speeds and steady at high speeds, making it very easy for daily driving. The front MacPherson and rear multi-link independent suspension are tuned for comfort. It absorbs most of the minor vibrations when going over speed bumps or uneven roads, avoiding any harsh impacts. When driving through curves, the body roll is well-controlled, providing sufficient support without any noticeable swaying feeling. In terms of fuel consumption, we tested 50 km each on urban congested roads and highways, achieving a combined fuel consumption of 6.8L/100km, which is close to the official 6.6L/100km figure, demonstrating decent fuel efficiency.
The driving comfort and details are well-handled. Noise control inside the cabin is quite good, and at a highway speed of 120 km/h, both wind and tire noise remain within an acceptable range, not affecting interior conversations. The seat cushions are moderately soft and provide good support, making long-term sitting comfortable without causing back pain. The transmission has an intelligent shift logic, keeping the engine in the low RPM range during normal driving. It is very smooth and avoids the common low-speed jerking issues seen in dual-clutch transmissions.
Overall, the core advantages of the 2025 GAC Emkoo Premium Pro include its coupe-style design, which balances aesthetics and practicality; a 2750mm wheelbase offering spaciousness; and standard intelligent and safety features that are more extensive than those of its peers. With a 1.5T engine that meets daily driving needs and provides economic fuel consumption, it stands out. Compared with similarly priced compact SUVs like the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4, the Emkoo Premium Pro offers better configurations and more space, while remaining more affordable.
This car is suitable for families focusing on balanced performance, especially those who value youthful looks along with sufficient space and safety features. Whether for daily commuting, weekend family outings, or long-distance road trips, it can handle all scenarios. If you are looking for a cost-effective, well-equipped family SUV, the Emkoo Premium Pro is worth considering.
