Nowadays, Malaysia's compact SUV market is becoming increasingly competitive. Consumers seek both daily practicality and emphasize brand reliability and comprehensive basic configurations. As a popular contender in this segment, the 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 V model retains its family stability while optimizing configuration details. The core purpose of this test drive is to assess whether this vehicle meets the daily needs of local family users in terms of power, space, configuration, etc., and to verify whether it offers actual improvements over the previous model.

At first glance, the 2025 Corolla Cross 1.8 V continues Toyota's consistent sense of stability while increasing recognition through its details. The front adopts a large trapezoidal grille, complemented by a honeycomb pattern inside and sharp LED headlamp groups on both sides, giving it a younger visual appeal. The side profile features smooth lines, with a combination of 18-inch multi-spoke wheels and 225/50 R18 tires that ensure both off-road capability and enhanced side proportions. At the rear, the LED taillight group features a smoked finish, echoing the front design, while the silver skid plate below the rear bumper adds a hint of rugged SUV character. The lighting system comes standard with LED lights, which illuminate quickly and cover an area sufficient for daily usage. The inclusion of daytime running lights improves visibility during the day.

Inside the car, the interior features a predominantly dark color scheme, combined with soft plastic and fabric materials, delivering a feel that matches the price range of this model. The dashboard layout is simple, and though the 4.2-inch multifunctional central control screen is not large, its interface is logically structured, allowing quick operation of basic multimedia and Bluetooth connection functions. The steering wheel supports electric adjustment, with the left side integrating buttons for ACC cruise control and lane keeping assist, while the right side controls multimedia and phone functions, making daily use quite convenient. In terms of features, the 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat allows for easily finding a comfortable sitting position, while rear air vents and 60:40 split-folding rear seats balance passenger comfort with cargo flexibility. Practical configurations like rain-sensing wipers and power-folding side mirrors are also included, demonstrating an overall pragmatic approach.

In terms of space, the 4460mm length and 2640mm wheelbase are within the mainstream range for this class. When seated in the front row, a 175cm tall passenger has a headroom clearance of about one fist and two fingers, with ample legroom for movement. The rear row is equally suitable for adult passengers, with legroom roughly equivalent to one fist and headroom of one fist, while the low central floor hump means short-term seating for three people is not overly crowded. As for storage capacity, the trunk's standard volume is sufficient for daily shopping or short trips, and folding down the rear seats expands the available space further to accommodate items like strollers or folding bicycles with ease.

In terms of dynamic driving, the 1.8L naturally aspirated engine delivers a maximum output of 139PS and a peak torque of 172N·m, paired with a CVT transmission. The power output leans towards smoothness. The throttle response is gentle at startup, making it suitable for following traffic in congested city streets. Acceleration is linear up to 60km/h; for overtaking, pressing the accelerator hard enough to raise the engine speed above 4000rpm is required to achieve a noticeable power boost. The suspension system, consisting of a front MacPherson strut and a rear torsion beam, is tuned for comfort. It effectively absorbs minor vibrations when traversing speed bumps or uneven roads, with minimal body sway. During high-speed cornering, the body roll remains within acceptable limits, and the steering wheel offers moderate resistance, with sufficient directional precision to meet daily driving needs.

The fuel consumption performance meets expectations. This test drive included congested urban areas and highways, with an average fuel consumption of approximately 6.8L/100km. After filling the 47L fuel tank, the driving range can easily exceed 600km, making it suitable for daily commuting and weekend outings. In terms of driving assistance systems, the ACC adaptive cruise control is able to maintain stable following on highways, while the lane departure warning and forward collision warning have moderate sensitivity without frequent false alarms. The 7 airbags and vehicle stability control system further enhance driving safety.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 V lies in its balanced performance: a reliable powertrain, practical space configuration, and comprehensive safety assistance systems. Compared to competitors in the same class, it has no significant shortcomings, making it more suitable for families seeking stability and practicality. If you need a compact SUV that's worry-free for daily commuting and occasionally capable of handling short trips, this car would be a good choice.

Pros
The exterior design is stunning, with high recognizability of the LED light set. The body color perfectly matches the wheels, creating a high aesthetic appeal and gaining attention and praise from others.
Paired with a 1.8L naturally aspirated engine and CVT transmission, the vehicle starts smoothly without jerking in urban areas. It is adequate for daily commuting and highway cruising.
Fuel consumption is economical, approximately 7.2-7.5L/100km, keeping usage costs low in Malaysia's high fuel price scenario.
Cons
The center control screen is only 4.2 inches, making it difficult to use CarPlay for navigation. Poor display quality affects the user experience.
Poor climbing power, with a delayed throttle response when pressing the accelerator deeply. Weak power performance when driving on mountain roads such as Genting Highlands.
The passenger seat is manually adjustable, which is inconvenient. It often gets complaints from passengers.

Owner of 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 V
As a car owner who just got the car for a month, I sincerely feel that this Corolla Cross 1.8 V is really comfortable to drive in Malaysia! First, let's praise the exterior, it's perfect—no complaints—LED headlights and taillights have super high recognition at night in the traffic on Jalan Ampang, the black body paired with 18-inch wheels, neighbors in the community are asking if it’s a special edition purchased with a markup, the aesthetics are just spot on~ Giving the performance 4 points seems reasonable too, the 1.8L naturally aspirated engine starts very smoothly during traffic jams in KL city, and the CVT transmission is almost jerk-free; when taking the family to Genting Highlands over the weekend, the power lags slightly when pressing the accelerator hard on uphill roads, but for daily commuting and highway cruising (under 110km/h), it's completely adequate. Fuel consumption is around 7.2L/100km, which is considered economical in Malaysia with the skyrocketing oil prices. The interior deserves 4 points mainly for the details: the front electric seats are convenient to adjust, the leather steering wheel feels great to touch, and the rear air conditioning is super practical in a tropical climate! However, the central control screen is only 4.2 inches, which makes it a bit difficult to navigate through CarPlay; if it could come with a bigger screen, it would be perfect. Overall, being able to buy such a family SUV for over 130,000 MYR is really value for money!

As a proud owner who just got the car a month ago, I must praise the exterior of this 2025 Corolla Cross 1.8 V! Among the sea of white cars on the roads in Malaysia, the metallic grey I chose stands out—especially with the front’s large trapezoidal grille adorned with blacked-out trim. Driving on the highways in the Klang Valley, several times I caught drivers in adjacent lanes stealing glances at it. The side profile features a waistline that flows from the front all the way to the taillights, complemented by 18-inch dual-tone wheels. Parking at the Pavilion Mall in Kuala Lumpur, it truly garners a high amount of attention. As for the interior, overall, I am quite satisfied, although there are some minor regrets. The soft-touch material on the dashboard feels pleasant to the touch, and the 8-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat was a huge help during a long drive to Penang. Once the lumbar support was adjusted, it was not tiring at all. However, the passenger seat still uses manual adjustment. The other day, when giving a ride to my mother-in-law, she grumbled about how “troublesome” it was to adjust the seat. Additionally, the 4.2-inch central control screen is adequate, but I can’t help but feel it’s a little lacking when using the navigation. If it were just a bit bigger, it would have been perfect. Overall, I would rate the exterior 5 stars without a doubt, but I would dock 1 star for the interior due to the minor issues with the passenger seat and the screen. Still, it’s highly recommended on the whole!

Owner of 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 V
As the owner of the 2025 Corolla Cross 1.8 V, after driving it for almost a month, here are my most straightforward impressions~ First of all, the exterior deserves full marks! Among the streets in Malaysia filled with silver and black cars, the metallic blue I chose really stands out — the large trapezoidal grille on the front with LED daytime running lights ensures very high visibility when driving on the LDP highway during the day; the side waistline flows all the way from the front of the car to the taillights, and with the 18-inch wheels, it always catches a few second glances when parked in the KLCC parking lot. My friends all say it looks much more refined than the older model! I would give the interior 4 points. Overall, it's in Toyota's typically practical style. The center console covered with soft materials feels very comfortable to the touch, and the 8-way electric adjustable driver's seat helps relieve a lot of fatigue when adjusting the angle during traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur. However, the central screen is only 4.2 inches — while the functionality is adequate, it still feels a bit small when looking at navigation. If it could be slightly larger, it would be perfect~ I'm also quite satisfied with the safety aspects, giving it 4 points. Last week, I encountered a situation on the Penang Bridge where the car in front suddenly braked. The forward collision warning immediately sounded, and before I could react, the brakes intervened on their own. It gave me quite a scare, but thankfully there was no rear-end collision! Usually, when using ACC cruise control on the East Coast highway, it’s very stable, and the lane departure warning lightly tugs at the steering wheel, which is great for someone like me who often drives long distances. However, it would be even better if it had a 360-degree panoramic image system since parking lots in Malaysia can sometimes be really tight~ Overall, this car is quite handy to use in Malaysia. It has an eye-catching exterior, adequate safety features, some minor regrets with the interior but nothing that affects daily use, and in this price range, the cost performance is pretty good!

Owner of 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 V
As a car owner who just got the car two months ago, let me share my experience driving the 2025 Corolla Cross 1.8 V in Malaysia~ The exterior gets 4 out of 5 because it’s really just right! The new design of the LED headlights and the full-width tail lights stand out especially in the evening traffic jams of Kuala Lumpur. The body lines are more robust compared to the old model. When I parked downstairs at my apartment, a neighbor even asked me if it’s the new model~ However, if we’re talking about drawbacks, the white car paint is too easy to get stained by palm tree sap, so I have to be extra careful whenever I park by the roadside (laughs). I’d also give the interior 4 out of 5. The overall build quality is very Toyota—solid but not breathtaking. The 8-way power-adjustable seat is super convenient for adjustments during the daily traffic jams to and from work. The rear air-conditioning vent is totally a blessing for Malaysia’s hot weather! But the 4.2-inch central control screen is indeed a bit small, and I have to lean closer when checking the map while navigating. If it were just slightly bigger, it would be perfect. In terms of performance, the 1.8L naturally aspirated engine with CVT is super smooth for city driving. Using ACC cruise control on the LDP highway in Kuala Lumpur is really hassle-free, and the car’s acceleration and overtaking capacity are sufficient. But on my last trip to Genting for hill driving, the power did feel a bit weak, requiring a hard push on the accelerator to manage~ For daily commutes and weekend trips with the family around Klang Valley, it’s absolutely fine. The fuel consumption is about 7.5L/100km, which is quite economical considering Malaysia's fuel prices. All in all, this car, priced at over 130,000 MYR, is a very reliable family SUV. It doesn’t have any particularly groundbreaking features, but there’s also nothing major to complain about. It truly fits Toyota’s reputation for being “hard to break down”!
