Honda CR-V 2019 Review

In the C-segment SUV market, the 2019 Honda CR-V has been a popular choice among family users and pragmatic consumers. The 2.0 2WD version, as the entry-level configuration of the lineup, has attracted considerable attention with its balanced features and affordable pricing. In this test drive, we focus on experiencing the actual performance of this model to see if it can strike the optimal balance between power, space, and value for money. We also compare the differences with other versions to provide consumers with clearer references.
The exterior design of the 2019 CR-V 2.0 2WD maintains the rugged style of the Honda family. The front fascia is equipped with a large chrome grille flanked by sharp LED headlights, giving it high recognition. The body lines extend from the hood to the rear, and the side waistline runs from the front fender to the tail lights, adding to the overall muscularity. At the rear, the irregularly shaped LED taillights complement the rear spoiler, while the silver skid plate below enhances the SUV’s off-road appeal. For lighting configurations, LED headlights, daytime running lights, and front and rear fog lights come as standard, with automatic headlight functionality enhancing everyday convenience.
Entering the cabin, the interior features a symmetrical layout, primarily in black with silver trim accents, giving it a clean and practical feel. The center console is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen that operates smoothly, while physical buttons are retained below for easier use while driving. Material-wise, the seats and interior sides of the doors are wrapped in soft-touch materials, offering a comfortable tactile experience. In terms of configuration, the driver’s seat supports electric adjustment, while the rear seats feature 60:40 split folding and manual reclining, providing high flexibility. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning, rear air vents, keyless entry/start, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a 220V/230V power outlet are all standard, meeting outdoor electricity needs as well.
Space performance is one of CR-V’s strong points. The vehicle's length, width, and height are 4584mm, 1855mm, and 1679mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2660mm, ensuring ample space for both front and rear passengers. A passenger with a height of 175cm sitting in the front row has a headroom of one fist, while the rear row provides more than two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom, ensuring comfort even on long journeys. The trunk has a capacity of 522 liters, which can be expanded by folding down the rear seats to accommodate larger items. As for storage space, the front and rear door pockets, central armrest box, and glove compartment are all practical and meet daily needs.
In terms of power, the 2019 CR-V 2.0 2WD is equipped with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine delivering a maximum output of 154PS and a peak torque of 189N·m, paired with a CVT gearbox. During actual driving, the power delivery is smooth during takeoff, and the acceleration is linear, making it suitable for urban roads. When overtaking on the highway, the throttle needs to be pressed deeply to gain sufficient power reserve. Although its 0-100km/h acceleration time of 11.3 seconds is not as fast as the 1.5T version, it adequately meets daily commuting needs. The steering is precise with minimal play, and the suspension system comprises front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension. The suspension is tuned for comfort, effectively filtering most road bumps. During cornering, the body roll is controlled within an acceptable range, offering good overall handling.
The comfort of daily driving in the CR-V 2.0 2WD is good, with moderate seat wrapping and sufficient support. In terms of noise control, the cabin remains quiet at speeds below 60km/h, but tire noise and wind noise become slightly noticeable at higher speeds, remaining within an acceptable range. The official combined fuel consumption is 7.3L/100km. In actual test drives, urban road consumption is about 8.5L/100km, and highway consumption is about 6.8L/100km, showing an average fuel economy performance. In terms of safety configurations, 6 airbags, ABS, vehicle stability control, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning are all standard. Front and rear parking sensors, as well as a 360-degree camera, enhance parking safety.
Compared to other versions, the 2019 CR-V 2.0 2WD stands out with its affordability and practical configurations. Although its power is not as strong as the 1.5T version, it is completely sufficient for daily use. Compared to its competitors in the same class, CR-V's space and reliability have always been highlights. While maintaining these advantages, the 2.0 2WD version is priced more attractively. It is suitable for family users who value space, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, particularly those who primarily commute on city roads and do not have high power demands.
In general, the 2019 Honda CR-V 2.0 2WD is a practical and well-balanced C-segment SUV. It does not have exceptionally standout features, but it performs reliably in terms of space, configuration, and reliability. If you are looking for an SUV that is suitable for family use, has low maintenance costs, and offers sufficient configurations, this model is worth considering. It may not be the most powerful, but it is certainly one of the most practical choices.
