There are plenty of choices in today's C-Segment SUV market. Consumers want enough space to meet family needs, while also expecting comprehensive features and a balanced driving experience. The 2021 Renault Koleos Signature enters this market with a price of around RM 201,087. Its core selling points include a comprehensive array of standard safety features, a spacious interior, and peace of mind brought by a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. We got our hands on the actual vehicle this time to focus on testing its everyday driving practicality and feature experience, to see how competitive it is in its class.

From the exterior, the 2021 Koleos Signature retains Renault's family design style, with an overall more stable and solid appearance. The chrome trim on the front runs through the LED headlights, enhancing the visual width, while the trapezoidal grille below adds to its recognition. The body side waistline extends from the front to the rear, suitably proportioned with the 225/60 R18 tire size. The rear's horizontal LED tail lights echo the front design, and the silver skid plate beneath the rear bumper adds a hint of SUV ruggedness. As for details, features like automatic headlights, front fog lamps, and rain-sensing wipers come standard, making it sufficiently convenient for daily use.

Opening the car door, the interior primarily uses dark tones, with extensive use of soft-touch materials, providing a decent tactile feel. The 8.7-inch central touchscreen is the visual centerpiece, with a clear layout and moderately responsive operation. The 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster on the left displays basic information such as speed and fuel consumption, with a simple and intuitive interface. In terms of features, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear air vents are standard. The front seats support manual adjustments, while the rear seats offer a 60:40 split-folding function with one-touch folding capability, providing good flexibility. Notably, six airbags, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision warning come standard across the range, showing considerable sincerity in safety features.

Space performance is one of the advantages of the Koleos Signature. The vehicle has dimensions of 4672mm in length, 1843mm in width, 1678mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2705mm, placing it among the upper middle range in its class. After adjusting the front seats, there’s a fist's worth of headroom for front passengers. Rear passengers have two fists of legroom and one fist of headroom, ensuring a comfortable experience even for passengers up to 180cm in height. As for storage, the front door panels can accommodate two water bottles, the central armrest box offers moderate capacity, and the trunk has a standard volume of 542 liters, which can be further expanded by folding down the rear seats, easily accommodating strollers or suitcases.

In terms of powertrain, the Koleos Signature is equipped with a 2.5L naturally aspirated engine, delivering a maximum power of 171PS at 6000rpm and a peak torque of 233N·m at 4400rpm, paired with a CVT transmission in a front-wheel-drive layout. During everyday driving, the acceleration is smooth, throttle response is linear, and the CVT transmission performs well with minimal jerking. During low to medium-speed acceleration, the power output is sufficient for city driving conditions. For overtaking, pressing the accelerator harder will raise the engine speed and deliver a noticeable burst of power. However, during high-speed acceleration, the characteristics of the naturally aspirated engine might make the power reserve feel slightly inadequate. The official combined fuel consumption is rated at 8.1L/100km. In our actual tests, it recorded around 9.2L/100km in urban conditions and approximately 7.5L/100km on highways, which is in line with expectations.

The handling and chassis performance lean toward comfort. The steering wheel is light to turn, with moderate precision, making it suitable for daily commuting. The front MacPherson independent suspension is tuned on the softer side, absorbing most minor vibrations when passing speed bumps or uneven roads, ensuring comfort for rear passengers. However, during cornering, the body roll is slightly noticeable, requiring speed control. In terms of noise control, tire and wind noise are not obvious at low speeds. At high speeds, wind noise increases slightly but remains within an acceptable range.

Overall, the key advantages of the 2021 Renault Koleos Signature are its spacious interior, standard safety features across the range, and a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. Compared to competitors in the same class, its configuration level is on par, and its space performance is even better. However, its power delivery is rather smooth, lacking some driving excitement. This car is more suitable for users who value practicality for family use, prioritize safety features, and appreciate after-sales support, such as families needing daily commuting and childcare or middle-aged consumers pursuing balanced performance. If you're looking for an SUV without obvious shortcomings that can meet the needs of the whole family, the Koleos Signature is worth considering.

Pros
Power delivery is smooth and linear; the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine with CVT combination is suitable for city driving and hill climbing, with sufficient power for overtaking
Fuel consumption is good, about 9L in the city and approximately 7.5L on the highway, with a full tank lasting over 600 kilometers
Comprehensive safety features include 6 airbags, a stability control system, lane-keeping assistance, and more to enhance driving safety
Cons
The car's paint is relatively thin and easily chipped by stones, white paint tends to collect tree sap and requires frequent cleaning
Some models have manual seat adjustment, making position adjustments inconvenient and affecting the experience
High-speed overtaking requires deep throttle input, and full-load climbing power is somewhat insufficient

Owner of 2018 Renault Koleos 2.5 2WD
As the owner of a 2018 Koleos 2.5 2WD, driving in Malaysia for nearly two years, let's talk about performance first—I think a 4-star rating is pretty fair. Normally commuting in Kuala Lumpur city, traffic jams are a common occurrence, and the combination of this 2.5 NA engine + CVT is really smooth. When pressing the accelerator, the power output is linear, following the car in front without jerking, making it very reassuring to drive. On weekends, taking the family to Genting Highlands, although it's FWD, as long as you're willing to press the gas pedal while climbing, it still delivers enough power. The 9.5-second acceleration also makes overtaking on the highway hassle-free. As for fuel consumption, it's around 9L in the city and can drop to 7.5L on the highway, slightly higher than the official 8.1L, but considering Malaysia's road conditions, it's pretty good. A full 60L tank can take you over 600 kilometers with no problem. As for the exterior, I also give it 4 stars. Renault's design is definitely distinctive. The body lines are smooth, and the length of 4.67 meters is not small among C-segment SUVs. It even gets quite a lot of attention when parked in the neighborhood. The LED headlights are bright enough at night, and the automatic lighting is particularly handy in places like Penang with its many tunnels. The 18-inch wheels paired with 225/60 tires look stylish, and the shock absorption is pretty decent when going over speed bumps, so it’s not overly bumpy. However, one small regret is that the car paint is a bit thin. Last time in Ipoh, a small pebble chipped the paint a bit; if it were thicker, it would be perfect. Overall, this car is quite suitable for use in Malaysia. Its performance and appearance meet my needs, and the 4-star rating is well-deserved.

Owner of 2021 Renault Koleos Signature Plus
As the owner of the 2021 Koleos Signature Plus, having driven it for nearly two years, here’s my real experience in Malaysia~ **Exterior** Giving it 4 points feels reasonable—the body lines are smooth, the LED headlights and 18-inch wheels are quite recognizable in KL's city traffic, especially when the automatic headlights turn on during dusk; the lighting quality feels premium. However, the rear design is a bit on the stable side, lacking a bit of the boldness that young people might prefer. If the taillights could be sharper, it would be perfect. **Safety** is something I’m satisfied with as well: Malaysia has frequent rainy days, and sudden situations often occur on highways. Its forward collision warning and lane-keeping assist have helped me avoid two minor accidents; paired with 6 airbags and vehicle stability control, it gave me a full sense of security last time I encountered skidding on water on the North-South Highway, as the car stabilized itself nicely. The only downside is that it doesn’t come with 360-degree surround view cameras, so new drivers might take a while to get used to parking. **Interior** feels solid, with soft-touch materials that are pleasant to touch. The 8.7-inch central control screen operates smoothly, and the Arkamy sound system delivers very clear quality when playing local Malaysian songs during long drives to Kuantan. However, the passenger seat adjusts manually, and sometimes friends complain that adjusting it is a bit troublesome; the rear air conditioner vent is practical, but it would be even more convenient if it had a USB charging port. Overall, this car performs very steadily under Malaysia’s road conditions, and it’s completely sufficient for family use. If some small details could be further optimized, it would be close to perfect!

Owner of 2020 Renault Koleos Signature
As the owner of a 2020 Koleos Signature for nearly two years, I can share my daily experiences in Malaysia focusing on these three points: Exterior gets a score of 4—Overall, it follows Renault’s relatively steady French design style. The LED headlights and 19-inch wheels offer decent recognition on the road. However, the large logo on the front and the rounded lines seem to slightly lack the “dominance” expected of a C-Segment SUV, especially when compared to locally common models like the CR-V or CX-5. It might be more suitable for those who prefer a low-profile look. It’s not stunning but is pleasant to the eyes. Safety deserves a full 5! With Malaysia’s extensive highways and narrow rural roads, the car’s six airbags and a full suite of electronic stability systems truly provide peace of mind. Last time on the North-South Expressway, when a motorcycle suddenly switched lanes ahead, the vehicle stability control reacted quickly without skidding. Also, the lane-change assist lights on the rearview mirror helped me avoid cars in blind spots several times in Kuala Lumpur traffic jams. With front and rear sensors, even new drivers can easily park in narrow spots like those in KLCC. Interior also deserves a full 5—The 8.7-inch touchscreen and full LCD dashboard offer a strong sense of technology. The Arkamys sound system delivers detailed performance, both in local Malay songs and Chinese music. The dual-zone air conditioning cools very quickly, especially in Kuala Lumpur’s 35-degree heat, and the rear air conditioning is strong too. When taking family to Genting Highlands, even the elderly in the backseat felt comfortable. The leather seats feel premium, and the overall craftsmanship is flawless, even more refined than some Japanese cars I’ve tested before. Overall, the safety and interior exceeded expectations, while the exterior is rather average!

Owner of 2020 Renault Koleos Signature Plus
As the owner of a 2020 Renault Koleos Signature Plus, after driving it in Malaysia for almost two years, what I want to praise the most is its safety features! After all, on Malaysia's highways, you often encounter cars suddenly changing lanes, and in the city, motorcycles darting around. The 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, and lane-keeping assist of this car have really saved me before—once on the North-South Expressway, a car from the adjacent lane suddenly cut into mine, and the stability system immediately kicked in. The steering didn’t wobble, and I dodged it steadily. When traveling with kids, the ISO FIX anchors allow you to secure the child safety seat with just a click, which is so much more convenient than using the old car’s seatbelt method. It directly boosts the sense of safety to the max. A solid 5 stars, no complaints at all! As for the exterior, I can only give it 4 stars. Although the body lines are considered stylish for a C-segment vehicle, and the LED headlights and 19-inch wheels look pretty sharp, the Renault logo and grille design on the front are a bit too “low profile.” In the parking lots of malls in Kuala Lumpur, friends often say “from afar, it looks like an ordinary SUV, and only up close do they recognize it as a Koleos.” If they could make the grille more distinctive, or add a sportier kit, it would probably suit the aesthetics of younger people better. But for family use, this exterior is sufficient!

Owner of 2021 Renault Koleos Signature Plus
As the owner of a 2021 Koleos Signature Plus, after nearly two years of driving, my daily commute and weekend trips in Malaysia have been quite pleasant! Let's start with the exterior – this streamlined body really stands out in KL traffic. The combination of LED headlights and chrome trim exudes a premium feel. Every time I park in front of Pavilion, people sneak a glance, and I'd say it's a perfect score with no doubt! For safety, I'd rate it 4 out of 5 because the features are practical: 6 airbags, automatic braking, and lane-keeping assist are all there. Last time on Jalan Ampang, I was following a car too closely, and the system directly gave a warning and even applied a bit of braking, avoiding a mishap! However, on the highway during crosswinds, the car body does sway slightly – if the crosswind stabilization system were more sensitive, it would feel even more reassuring. As for performance, the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine suffices for local road conditions: the CVT is very smooth in city traffic, without any jolts. When I went to Genting for the weekend, the uphill drive wasn’t particularly aggressive, but after stepping on the gas, power gradually came up and kept up with the traffic. Fuel consumption is about 8.5L/100km, roughly matching the official claims. Overall, as a family SUV, I’m quite satisfied with its performance!
