The competition in the C-segment sedan market in Malaysia has become increasingly intense in recent years. Most consumers are looking for both practicality for daily commuting and a vehicle with sporty tuning and features—this is precisely what the 2025 Toyota Corolla GR Sport aims to provide. As the sporty version of the Corolla series, it not only retains the core advantages of a family car but also includes targeted upgrades to the chassis and details. The main goal of our test this time is to verify whether it can meet the dual requirements of "family comfort" and "sporty driving" simultaneously.

From the exterior, the car's sporty positioning is quite intuitive. The front end features a blacked-out honeycomb grille, paired with the exclusive GR Sport badge for high recognizability; the sharp-shaped LED headlights are connected to the chrome strip along the grille, enhancing the visual width. The body side lines are smooth, and the 18-inch black multi-spoke wheels with 225/40 R18 tires further strengthen the sporty stance. The side skirts beneath the doors and the small rear spoiler are subtle yet appropriately emphasize the car's sporty attributes. The taillight assembly adopts LED lighting with an internal blacked-out treatment, offering excellent recognizability when illuminated. The overall design is not ostentatious but allows onlookers to recognize at a glance that it is different from a standard Corolla.

Sitting inside, the interior features black as the main color, accented with red stitching. For instance, details like the stitching on the steering wheel, seats, and door panels all enhance the sporty ambience. The dashboard layout is simple, with a 10-inch touchscreen centrally positioned that operates smoothly and supports both CarPlay and Android Auto; below it, some physical buttons are retained for easy operation while driving. In terms of materials, the top of the dashboard uses soft-touch plastic, while the door panels are wrapped in leather, providing a tactile feel that matches expectations for this price range. As for features, the 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster offers various display modes and can show navigation, power output, and other information. The driver’s seat is 8-way electrically adjustable and provides good support, making long-distance driving less tiring. The rear comes equipped with independent air conditioning vents and USB ports to meet the basic needs of passengers.

Regarding space, the wheelbase measures 2700mm, which is standard for the C-segment. After adjusting the front seats to the appropriate position, the rear provides about two fists of legroom and around one fist of headroom, ensuring even passengers as tall as 180cm will not feel cramped. For storage, the central armrest box and door pockets in the front row offer generous space. The rear armrest includes cup holders, and the trunk can accommodate up to 3 20-inch suitcases in its normal capacity. The 60:40 split-folding rear seats further expand the space, suitable for family trips or carrying larger items.

In terms of performance, it is equipped with a 1.8L naturally aspirated engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 139PS and a peak torque of 172N·m, paired with a 10-speed CVT gearbox with paddle shifters. During daily driving, the car has a quick start and the low-speed torque is delivered smoothly, making it well-suited for city commutes. When the throttle is pressed hard to accelerate, the transmission responds promptly. Although it lacks the explosive power of a turbocharged engine, the mid-to-high-speed power is sufficient for highway overtaking. In sport mode, the throttle sensitivity increases, and the response speed of the paddle shifters becomes faster, offering a certain degree of driving pleasure.

The handling and chassis are the highlights of this car. The front MacPherson + rear double wishbone independent suspension setup, specially tuned by GR Sport, offers greater rigidity compared to the standard Corolla. The body roll is well-controlled when cornering, and the steering is precise with moderate self-centering force, giving the driver ample confidence. On bumpy roads, the suspension filters out most of the fine vibrations while retaining some road feel, unlike a purely family-oriented car that tends to be overly soft. In terms of braking, the front ventilated disc + rear disc brakes perform stably, the brake pedal feel is linear, and the body remains stable during emergency braking.

As for comfort, the noise control is quite good. Below a speed of 60km/h, the interior is very quiet. On highways, wind and tire noise increase slightly but do not affect normal conversations. The seats strike a good balance between wrapping and support, suitable for lateral support during sporty driving while ensuring comfort for everyday use. The fuel consumption is as expected. In our tests of mixed urban and highway conditions, the fuel consumption was about 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers. With the use of 95-octane gasoline, the daily operating cost remains low.

In terms of safety features, this car ranks above average in its class: 7 airbags, full-speed range ACC adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane change assist, 360-degree panoramic camera, etc., are all standard configurations, providing sufficient safety assurance for both the driver and passengers.

Overall, the core advantage of the 2025 Toyota Corolla GR Sport lies in its "balance"—it features a sporty appearance and tuning to satisfy occasional driving pleasure, while retaining the space, comfort, and practicality of a family car, making it suitable for daily commutes and family use. Compared to competitors in the same class, such as the Honda Civic Sport version, its configuration is more comprehensive (e.g., full LCD instrumentation, 360-degree camera) while being more cost-effective. And compared to the standard Corolla, its chassis tuning and sporty details are more attractive to younger consumers.

This car is suitable for two types of people: first, families who need a daily driver but do not want to completely sacrifice driving pleasure; and second, young office workers who value sporty looks and features while appreciating Toyota's reliability. Overall, it has no obvious shortcomings and is a "well-rounded" compact sports sedan that strikes an excellent balance between practicality and sportiness.

Pros
The interior has a strong sense of technology, with a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 10-inch center control screen running smoothly. The soft-touch materials offer better texture compared to cars of the same price range from Japanese brands.
The air conditioning cools quickly, with dual-zone automatic air conditioning paired with independent rear air vents, providing an excellent experience in hot weather.
Comprehensive safety features include 7 airbags as standard, 360-degree panoramic imaging, ACC adaptive cruise control, and practical active safety systems.
Cons
The car paint is relatively thin and can easily be chipped by small stones, so daily protection is needed.
The passenger seat is manually adjustable, which is inconsistent with the driver's electric adjustment, affecting convenience.
The power performance is adequate for daily use but lacks excitement; overtaking or climbing hills requires deep pressing of the accelerator, with no sense of pushback.

Owner of 2025 Toyota Corolla GR Sport
As the owner of the 2025 Corolla GR Sport for almost three months, the driving experience in Malaysia really fits daily needs perfectly! First, let’s praise the interior — **5 stars, no complaints at all**! The combination of a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 10-inch central control screen is packed with a sense of technology, and the interface is smooth without lag. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning cools super fast in Kuala Lumpur’s 35°C heat, and the rear row also has independent air vents. When taking the family to Genting Highlands, the elders in the back row praised it for not being stuffy. The seats are sporty style with faux leather stitching, and the 8-way electric adjustable driver’s seat allows you to adjust to a comfortable angle during long drives (like from Selangor to Penang), so you can sit for two hours without feeling sore. The details are well done, such as the soft-touch coverings on the door panels and the leather feel of the steering wheel, which give a better texture compared to other cars in the same price range from Japanese brands. Performance gets **4 stars** because it’s suitable for daily use but not particularly "aggressive" — the combination of the 1.8L naturally aspirated engine and the 10-speed CVT is very smooth when following cars in city traffic, and the throttle doesn’t feel jumpy when you press it. However, when driving on the North-South Expressway and trying to overtake a truck, you need to press the pedal a bit harder to downshift and accelerate. Still, 139 horsepower is more than enough for Malaysia's highway speed limits (110 km/h). On the windy roads to Genting Highlands, the chassis tuning was very stable, and the GR Sport’s sporty suspension provided better support than the standard version. There was little body roll when cornering, and the steering was quite precise. The only downside is that the CVT lacks a bit of "sporty feel," leaving it short on shifting excitement. Safety gets **4 stars** because the features are comprehensive but not "class-leading" — with 7 airbags, a 360-degree panoramic camera (super practical for parking in narrow alleys near Kuala Lumpur’s Twin Towers!), ACC adaptive cruise control (relieves your right foot on highways), and lane departure warning all as standard features. Last time, while driving on a rural road in Penang, I almost hit a motorcycle, and the forward collision warning beeped to alert me, providing a strong sense of safety. However, compared to German cars in the same price range, it lacks an automatic parking feature, which may be less friendly to new drivers. But for an experienced driver like me, it’s sufficient. For the exterior, **4 stars** because it’s sporty but not too flashy — the GR Sport's blackened 18-inch wheels, honeycomb front grille, and small rear spoiler make it more recognizable compared to the standard model. When parked in the neighborhood, even my neighbors asked if it’s a "performance version." However, the paint seems a bit thin; I noticed a small chip from a pebble on a gravel road in Ipoh recently, so that’s something to watch out for. Overall, with a price around RM150,000, this GR Sport can be considered a "well-rounded contender" in Malaysia’s C-segment car market. The interior and safety configurations are big highlights, the performance is suited for daily use, and the exterior is pleasing to the eye. It’s perfect for car owners like me who need something for family use but also want a touch of sportiness!

As the owner of the 2025 Toyota Corolla GR Sport, having driven it for almost three months, I truly feel the money was well spent! Let's start with the performance. I commute daily on KL's LDP highway, and during the morning rush hour traffic, the CVT transmission is very smooth with absolutely no jerking. On weekends, I take my family to Genting, and the 1.8L naturally aspirated engine provides sufficient power for climbing hills. The double-wishbone rear suspension offers excellent support when cornering; the body stays completely stable. A 5-star rating, no doubt! The exterior is even more praiseworthy. The GR Sport's sporty body kit and 18-inch blackened wheels make it highly eye-catching when parked in shopping mall lots in PJ. The red calipers are just the perfect touch, and my friends all say it looks much cooler than the standard version. Definitely deserving of 5 stars! As for the interior, while it’s not in the luxury class, the soft-touch materials feel very comfortable. The 12.3-inch fully digital instrument panel and 10-inch central control screen provide sufficient modern tech vibes. However, the fact that the passenger seat is still manually adjustable is a slight letdown, so I'll have to deduct 1 star and give it 4 stars. In terms of safety, I feel assured. With 7 airbags and ACC adaptive cruise control, once on the North-South Expressway, the car in front suddenly braked, and the forward collision warning immediately alerted me. It was almost a crash, but the active safety features really saved the day! That said, the lane-keeping assist's alert sound is a bit too quiet and can sometimes be overlooked when music is on. Overall, I'm still quite satisfied and would give it 4 stars. All in all, under Malaysia's road conditions, this car meets the needs of daily commuting and the occasional spirited driving. I recommend it to friends considering a C-segment car!

As the owner of a 2025 Corolla GR Sport, I’ve been driving it for almost two months, and I’d give the interior and exterior a 4 out of 5. Overall, I’m quite satisfied! In terms of exterior design, the GR Sport’s sporty kit really matches my taste — the blacked-out 18-inch wheels paired with low-profile tires make it particularly eye-catching on the highways of Kuala Lumpur. Even the gas station attendants have asked if it’s been modified. The honeycomb grille design and the small rear spoiler are much more refined compared to the standard Corolla. The only small regret is that the paint tends to attract tree sap under strong sunlight, so I need to wax and maintain it frequently. As for the interior, the 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and 10-inch central touchscreen provide sufficient tech appeal. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning cools down very quickly in Malaysia’s hot weather, and the rear air vents also take care of my family. However, although the front seats are conveniently electrically adjustable, the leather feels a bit hard. Driving long distances on highways (such as trips to Penang) can cause some lower back discomfort. Additionally, the passenger seat is still manually adjustable, and if it could be upgraded to electric adjustment, it would be even better. All in all, having such a design and configuration at this price point feels very worth it to me!

Owner of 2025 Toyota Corolla GR Sport
As the owner of the 2025 Corolla GR Sport for three months, I must praise its safety features the most! The roads in Malaysia are full of motorcycles, and intersections are chaotic. Several times on the LDP highway, I was startled by cars suddenly cutting lines. The forward collision warning immediately beeped, and the autonomous emergency braking stopped the car twice for me. The lane-keeping assist is also great — during rush hour traffic in Kuala Lumpur when changing lanes, the side mirrors light up to warn if there's a car in the blind spot, truly a lifesaver. With 7 airbags and seatbelt reminders throughout the car, taking my child out using ISOFIX to install the car seat feels super secure. For safety, I’d give them a perfect 5; absolutely no complaints! For performance, I’d give it a score of 4. The 1.8L naturally aspirated engine + CVT handles city driving very well, and starting up in heavy traffic areas like Jalan Imbi doesn't feel sluggish. It’s also stable when cruising at 110km/h on the highway. However, being a family car, although the throttle response is quicker in SPORT mode, the power isn’t enough for aggressive driving — for instance, last time climbing up to Genting Highlands’ mid-hill, overtaking required me to floor the pedal and wait for the RPM to climb, without the turbocharged "push-back" feel. But for daily commuting and weekend family trips to Genting Highlands, it’s more than enough, and I’m quite satisfied with this performance!

Owner of 2025 Toyota Corolla GR Sport
As the owner of the 2025 Corolla GR Sport, I've been driving it for nearly three months, so here's my real experience in Malaysia! First of all, safety deserves a perfect score! With Malaysia's highways being busy and close distances between cars in city traffic, the TSS 3.0 system has really saved me — once on the North-South Highway, the car in front suddenly braked hard, my car started beeping frantically and immediately braked to a stop. I broke out in a cold sweat at that moment! When driving on the LDP during traffic jams, the ACC is super convenient, and the 360-degree camera helps when parking in those narrow alleys in PJ, so I’m not worried about scratching nearby motorcycles. With 7 airbags + full-car seatbelt reminders, the sense of safety is unmatched, especially when taking kids out. For the interior, I’d give it 4 points. The overall quality feels good, but there's room for improvement in the details. The 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster and 10-inch center screen make navigation super clear when looking for a parking spot in Bukit Bintang. The dual-zone automatic air conditioning cools down the car in just five minutes in Kuala Lumpur’s 35-degree heat, and the rear seats also get air vents, so friends in the back won’t complain about being hot when driving up to Genting Highlands. However, the seats are faux leather, and during long highway drives (like to Penang), the back can get a bit sweaty. If they used real leather, it would be perfect. In terms of performance, the 1.8L NA engine + CVT is sufficient for Malaysian road conditions. The start is smooth during city traffic jams, unlike some turbocharged cars that jerk forward; while driving on the Johor-Singapore Causeway, stepping hard on the accelerator for overtaking still has enough power, and the paddle shifters on the steering wheel respond quite quickly. However, when fully loaded with 5 people and the air conditioning running while climbing up to Genting Highlands, the power feels a bit sluggish, so you’ll need to pre-emptively accelerate. The chassis is really stable; when driving over the bumpy old roads of Kuala Lumpur, the suspension is so much better than the regular Corolla, and it doesn’t make the ride uncomfortable. Overall, at RM150k in this price range, it's truly worth buying in Malaysia. Safety and practicality are top-notch, and the small shortcomings are completely acceptable!
