BYD Plans to Promote 1000V High Voltage Super Charging Stations and Its Models on a Large Scale

【PCauto】Recently, the news that BYD plans to launch a large-scale 1000V high-voltage supercharging platform has attracted widespread attention. It is reported that the platform will be released in mid-March this year and will support 5C or higher super-fast charging. After the release, it will be rapidly applied to BYD's models and a large number of 1000V supercharging stations will be built.

This move will undoubtedly create a huge wave in the new energy vehicle market. Let's take a closer look at the BYD 1000V supercharging technology, its market advantages, and BYD's strategic objectives behind it.

BYD 1000V Can Significantly Shorten Charging Time

The so-called 1000V high-voltage platform does not mean the vehicle's actual voltage is a constant 1000V, but rather the vehicle's rated voltage is in the range of 930V or higher, close to or reaching 1000V or even higher. According to the power formula P=UI (Power = Voltage × Current), when increasing the charging power, choosing to increase the current can lead to a significant rise in system heat, due to the formula P=I²R (current squared × resistance), which would not only reduce safety but also drastically increase energy consumption. On the other hand, increasing voltage becomes a more reasonable choice, as higher voltage allows higher power output with the same current.

"C" in charging technology represents the battery's charging and discharging rate. 1C means the battery can be fully charged or discharged in 1 hour, while 5C means the battery can theoretically be fully charged in 1/5 of an hour (i.e., 12 minutes). The BYD 1000V platform's 5C supercharging technology enables "charging for 5 minutes to achieve a range of 300 km," an astonishing charging efficiency. In contrast, NIO's previously released 900V architecture showed that similar technology could reduce charging time by 60% compared to traditional systems. This technology brings electric vehicle charging closer to the convenience of refueling a gasoline car, greatly alleviating users' range anxiety.

The BYD 1000V high-voltage platform has a significant improvement in charging efficiency compared to the mainstream 800V systems on the market. Experts point out: "For every 100V increase in voltage, the charging power increases by 25kW at the same current." Thus, BYD has achieved stable output at high voltages through material innovation, meaning that vehicles can complete charging in a shorter time, saving users' time costs.

Launching 1000V Models and Supercharging Stations This Year

BYD plans to launch the 1000V platform technology within a few months and apply it to high-end models, before gradually expanding it to different price segments. This way, BYD can cover a broader market, attract more potential customers, and further expand its market share.

In addition, BYD will also build a large number of 1000V high-voltage supercharging stations. This move will not only enhance the coverage of charging infrastructure and provide users with a more convenient charging experience, but also help improve its new energy vehicle ecosystem.

Apart from the 1000V supercharging platform, BYD is also pushing forward its pure electric architecture project, codenamed "BOX," aimed at further improving the integration level and energy efficiency of the electric drive system based on the current pure electric architecture. In response to competitors like XPENG accelerating their deployment of 800V models, BYD is enhancing its competitiveness through a "vehicle + charging station" approach.

The 1000V supercharging platform, as an important technological innovation, will allow BYD to lead its competitors in terms of technology, while the large-scale deployment of supercharging stations gives it an edge in infrastructure construction. Through this all-around strategic upgrade, BYD can better respond to market competition and maintain its leading position in the new energy vehicle industry.

The launch of the BYD 1000V supercharging platform is of great significance, both from the perspectives of technological innovation and market strategy. It not only provides consumers with a more convenient and efficient charging experience, improving product competitiveness, but also lays a solid foundation for BYD’s continued development in the new energy vehicle market. It is expected to lead the industry into a new phase of development. As the platform is officially launched in mid-March, we look forward to seeing the surprises BYD will bring to the market.
