BYD Rolls Out Software Update for Second-Generation Yuan Plus, Introducing Sentinel Mode

【PCauto】Recently, BYD has begun pushing a software update to the second-generation Yuan Plus (Atto 3), which includes the Sentinel Mode feature. The second-generation Yuan Plus was launched on March 5, and just over ten days later, it received its first significant software update. As an entry-level electric vehicle, the inclusion of DiPilot 100 for intelligent driving and Sentinel Mode undoubtedly enhances its cost performance.

The Yuan Plus is built on BYD's e-platform 3.0 and is equipped with the DiPilot 100 system, which features three front-facing cameras (two wide-angle and one telephoto), five cameras around the vehicle, four surround-view cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars for close-range detection. The Sentinel Mode in the Yuan Plus utilizes these cameras to record and monitor the surroundings of the vehicle.

BYD officially recommends that Yuan Plus users insert a storage card of 32GB or larger, with a preference for 64GB or above when using the Sentinel Mode. Once activated, the Yuan Plus will continuously monitor its surroundings using all its cameras. If a pedestrian approaches, or the vehicle is subjected to impacts or body knocks, the system will immediately issue a warning and automatically record relevant video, providing the owner with recorded evidence. This feature not only enhances vehicle security but also gives owners a greater sense of safety.

However, concerns regarding the power consumption of Sentinel Mode have been addressed by BYD. Recording is only initiated when someone approaches or the vehicle experiences vibrations, resulting in relatively low power consumption. Even when the vehicle is turned off and locked, all cameras will continue to monitor and record, generating emergency footage if any incidents occur. Of course, in areas with dense pedestrians, the Sentinel Mode may frequently activate due to the presence of passersby.
It is understood that the software update for Sentinel Mode is not limited to the latest Yuan Plus; older BYD models will also receive this feature, provided they have the necessary hardware to support it.
