BYD is about to build a factory in Cambodia: it may be the second power point in Southeast Asia!

On July 16, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet posted on social media that he had met with Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD's Asia Pacific auto sales division, and that BYD planned to invest in setting up an electric vehicle assembly plant in Cambodia, which could assemble 20,000 electric vehicles annually. This implies that the Cambodian plant will become BYD's second production base in Southeast Asia. The first production base is located in Rayong, Thailand, which has just completed construction and the offline ceremony of the 8 millionth new energy vehicle.

Hun Manet stated that the electric vehicles produced by the BYD Cambodia plant can not only supply the Cambodian market, but also be exported to other Southeast Asian countries. On the 4th of this month, BYD's Thailand factory was completed and put into operation, with an annual production capacity of about 150,000 units. Thailand and Cambodia, as ASEAN countries, choose to build factories in the local can effectively avoid the impact of tariffs and international situation on car sales, so choosing to build factories in the local will effectively boost BYD's development in the Southeast Asian market.

Thailand itself does not have its own auto brand, so it is relatively generous of auto brands that invest and build factories overseas. Although it has a inclusive policy, the single choice often means bondage for the enterprises. BYD's choice to build a factory in Cambodia may mean that it will develop its second stronghold in Southeast Asia to expand its production capacity and increase its control over the Southeast Asian market.
