The Malaysia Zero Emission Vehicle Association (MyZEVA) recently announced the list of best-selling electric vehicles in Malaysia. According to the association's data, as of July 2024, an estimated 12,400 electric vehicles have been sold in Malaysia.

Looking at the specific data, the electric vehicle brand BYD from China occupies the first two positions, with BYD SEAL and BYD ATTO3 accounting for 17% and 16% of the market share respectively. The former is a pure electric car with a sporty style, adopting the aesthetic design of the ocean; while the latter is an SUV intended for home use, the main advantage lies in space and comfort.

Closely followed by Tesla from the United States, with Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3 accounting for 15% and 13% of the market share respectively. As a leading brand in the new energy vehicle industry, Tesla has a powerful appeal.

The sixth to tenth places are occupied by GREAT WALL ORA, SMART BRABUS, MG 4, BMW i5, and BMW iX2, which account for 12% of the total market share.
The Association predicts that Malaysia's electric vehicle sales will reach 20,000 this year, and the 12,400 units sold as of July are already close to the total of 13,257 for the whole year of 2023. This shows that the electric vehicle market in Malaysia is still in a rapid growth stage, with new energy brands led by the United States and China in a dominant position.
