[PCauto] BYD Xia has recently been launched, effectively occupying the void in BYD's MPV segment left by the discontinuation of BYD M6 in China.

BYD Xia presents four configurations, categorized into two distinct variants based on the CLTC pure electric range test: approximately 100 kilometers and 180 kilometers, with pricing ranging from 249,800 to 309,800 RMB. This equates to roughly RM153,400 to RM189,200.

As a pivotal model for BYD, Xia is equipped with the fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid system, renowned for its fuel efficiency and now surpassing Toyota's hybrid systems in popularity within China. The fifth-generation DM system incorporates a dedicated 1.5T hybrid engine generating a power output of 115 kW, paired with a motor power of 200 kW, delivering a maximum torque of 315 N·m.

The entry-level version achieves 0-100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. BYD Xia is available in two range configurations: the base variant features a 20.39 kWh battery providing a CLTC pure electric range of 100 kilometers, while the higher configuration boasts a 36.628 kWh battery, extending the pure electric range to 180 kilometers. With a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, the vehicle's comprehensive range can reach up to 1060 kilometers. When operating with low battery levels, Xia's fuel consumption is recorded at 5.3 to 5.4 liters per 100 kilometers.

The interior design of BYD Xia adopts a contemporary aesthetic, characterized by a T-shaped layout and a beige-brown stitched upholstery more conducive to family usage. The center console is equipped with three large screens, with the floating central control screen comparable in size to that found in Tengshi Z9. To the left, an embedded full LCD instrument panel is featured, accompanied by a flat-bottom steering wheel, while the right side is allocated for an entertainment screen catering to the front passenger.

The vehicle is enhanced with the DiLink150 smart cockpit and a high-performance cockpit chip, ensuring outstanding functionality and smooth operation. Additional features include an onboard refrigerator with temperature settings adjustable between 50°C and -6°C, including ice-making capabilities.

The rear seating area is furnished with a ceiling-mounted entertainment screen, operable via remote control or voice recognition, with the option to deactivate using buttons located on the rear armrests.

The rear seats are designed for comfort, offering multi-directional electric adjustments. Each side is fitted with buttons for single-click reclining and resetting, complemented by small tables on both sides of the rear row, providing convenience for resting, studying, or working.

The third-row seats can be adjusted forward and backward by 100 mm and can be electrically folded down into the vehicle’s recessed trunk space, thereby augmenting storage capacity.

In recent years, the rise in fuel prices in Malaysia has coincided with the gradual withdrawal of fuel subsidies. I am optimistic about the introduction of BYD Xia MPV in Malaysia. While public acceptance of electric vehicles may take time, the trend towards plug-in hybrids is unmistakable. Additionally, the interior of Xia offers a commendably luxurious experience.
