Don't panic at the diesel price increase! These fuel-efficient car models are your best choices!

On June 1, 2024, the Malaysian government announced that it would begin to gradually abolish diesel subsidies, and the price of diesel on the Malaysian Peninsula will increase by about 50%. The government's goal is to reduce the increasing diesel subsidy bill and stop diesel smuggling. The government is shifting from blanket subsidies to targeted subsidies to help those in need, for example, the price of diesel for fishermen will remain at RM1.65 per liter, and the price in Sabah and Sarawak will remain at RM2.15 per liter. It is worth mentioning that the government may also cut gasoline subsidies after the reform of diesel subsidies, gradually reducing the ongoing subsidy policies to deal with the impact of the international situation on the exchange rate.

According to the data, the current price of diesel is RM3.01, which has dropped RM0.34 compared to the RM3.35 when the subsidy reduction policy was just announced in June. However, there is still a not small increase compared to the former RM2.15. As the Malaysian government gradually phases out diesel subsidies, the increase in diesel prices has become an undisputed fact. This policy change undoubtedly brings certain economic pressure to consumers who rely on diesel vehicles. However, by choosing models with high fuel efficiency, consumers can still alleviate this burden to a certain extent.

Under this situation, we recommend several economical diesel models, including the Mitsubishi Triton, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-MAX, Toyota Hilux, and Mazda CX-5. These models are not only known for their excellent fuel economy, but also provide reliable performance and practicality. They are more economical choices for diesel car users in the new policy environment.
