【PCauto】In the Malaysian automotive market, rugged off-road vehicles have consistently garnered favor among off-road enthusiasts, with Toyota Land Cruiser maintaining a prominent position for many years. This year, the impending launch of GMW Tank 500 in Malaysia introduces another significant contender in the rugged off-road segment.

Tank 500 features a robust exterior design characterized by powerful lines that project a commanding presence. With approximate dimensions of 5,070 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, its size ensures it stands out on the road.

Continuing the luxurious interior design for which Chinese automakers are renowned, Tank 500 offers configurations for both five and seven passengers. The interior showcases a T-shaped layout predominantly in black tones, augmented by high-quality materials that provide a soft and comfortable tactile experience. Also, it is equipped with a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen. Additionally, the vehicle includes 12 speakers paired with an Infinity sound system. The seating arrangement features memory, heating, and ventilation functions for both the front and rear rows.

Concerning its powertrain, Tank 500 anticipated to launch in Malaysia is expected to provide a non-plug-in hybrid (HEV) variant initially. This version is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 244 HP and 380 N·m of torque, working with an electric motor that contributes 106 HP and 268 N·m of torque, and is mated to a dedicated 9AT (HAT) transmission for hybrid systems. The total system power can achieve up to 350 HP with a torque output of 616 N·m, offering robust power for navigating diverse and challenging terrains.

Moreover, Tank 500 can be equipped with an optional four-wheel-drive system, featuring front and rear differential locks, a low-range four-wheel-drive mode (4L), a Tank Assist function, and a 360-degree panoramic camera system that incorporates a transparent body feature, enabling drivers to monitor both their surroundings and the vehicle's undercarriage while off-roading.

Undoubtedly, the main competitor for Tank 500 in the Malaysian market is Toyota Land Cruiser. Having cultivated a robust market presence over the years, Land Cruiser benefits from a strong reputation for reliability and brand recognition. Nevertheless, Tank 500 possesses many advantages, including an opulent interior, advanced technological features, and superior price performance, potentially appealing to Malaysian consumers.

Regarding the pricing of Tank 500 in Malaysia, there is currently no official information available. However, reasonable speculations can be made. Given that Tank 300 is priced around 250,000 Malaysian Ringgit, and considering that Tank 500 retails between 335,000 - 395,000 RMB in China—approximately translating to 205,000 - 240,000 Malaysian Ringgit—and factoring in import duties, transportation costs, and local supply-demand dynamics, it is estimated that Tank 500's price in Malaysia may range from 250,000 to 350,000 Malaysian Ringgit.
Should its final pricing reside within this spectrum, Tank 500 would possess a competitive price advantage against Land Cruiser, potentially securing a notable share of the rugged off-road market in Malaysia. We anticipate observing its performance within the market landscape.

Traz, as a newly launched mid-sized SUV, offers more spacious room and mainstream power compared to small SUVs, but its pricing appears slightly higher than that of Ativa. Ativa, on the other hand, is Perodua's long-time best-selling small SUV with more affordable pricing and a balanced combination of power and tech features.

Perodua Myvi and Bezza may undergo major upgrades in 2026
After the update, the Bezza will no longer be just a low-cost alternative but a core model in the Perodua system with greater market competitiveness and brand premium potential. The upgrade of the Myvi is not to be unconventional but to strengthen the brand and market, ensuring that the Myvi continues to maintain its irreplaceable position in the new round of product competition.

Perodua Traz VS Toyota Yaris Cross, where does the Traz fall short?
Before the official launch of the Perodua Traz, market expectations were actually very high because it shares the same DNGA platform as the Toyota Yaris Cross. However, sharing the same platform does not equate to the same experience, and the Traz's final performance has indeed been disappointing. Perhaps it is precisely because of the delayed launch that it has almost no competitiveness in the current competitive environment.

Will the Toyota Yaris Cross come to Malaysia? If it comes, how much will it sell for?
The launch of Perodua Traz indicates that the market size of small SUVs in Malaysia has been expanding in recent years. However, the question naturally shifts back to Toyota. As a brand with the most comprehensive product line and a strong foundation in both the SUV and hybrid sectors, will Toyota choose the Yaris Cross to participate in this small SUV competition?

Why is the Toyota Sienna so popular with so many people?
In Malaysia, most family MPVs choose Toyota Alphard, Vellfire, or Kia Carnival. These models each have their advantages in luxury, space, or brand influence, but models that truly balance large space, multifunctional practicality, fuel efficiency, and reliability are rarely seen.
