[PCauto] GWM's flagship SUV, the benchmark TANK 300, has undergone significant upgrades. In the latest regulatory document published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), two PHEV variants with different technological approaches have been unveiled: Hi4-T and Hi4-Z.

The new model not only increases its wheelbase by 260 mm but also boosts pure electric range to 200 km with a nearly 60 kWh battery.

Hi4-T and Hi4-Z, two completely different hybrid systems, are respectively tailored for off-road and urban user groups.

The new TANK 300 has an extended body

The new TANK 300's wheelbase leaps from the current 2,750 mm to 3,010 mm, while the vehicle length is stretched to 4,886 mm accordingly.

The exterior continues the family’s iconic "boxy" design, while details further reinforce its rugged character. The front replaces the grille with a more mechanical design, and the original brand logo is substituted with a bold black "TANK" lettering. Paired with more robust bumper bars and flared wheel arches, the vehicle's sense of power is instantly heightened.

The rear continues the tough style with exposed spare wheels, vertical strip-shaped taillights, and side-hinged tailgate, preserving all the quintessential elements of hardcore off-roaders.

In addition, both models offer a wealth of personalized optional upgrades, such as sunroofs, roof racks, grille color options, and wheel design, catering to diverse customization needs.

Moreover, LiDAR has been spotted in the optional features list, expected to be available on the Hi4-Z version. This will likely enable urban NOA navigation-assisted driving.

What is the difference between Hi4-T and Hi4-Z?

Hi4-Z for off-road enthusiasts

In terms of the power system, the characteristics of the two models are completely distinct. For off-road enthusiasts, the TANK 300 Hi4-T remains the top choice.

It retains the undivided mechanical four-wheel drive structure and keeps the chassis frame design with ladder construction.

The 2.0T engine paired with the 9HAT transmission delivers a staggering combined torque of 750 N·m.

Although the 105 km WLTC pure electric range is quite ordinary, its 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds and its exceptional off-road stability remain an unmatched presence in its class.

Hi4-Z Targeted at Urban Users

For consumers who spend most of their time commuting in the city and occasionally go on outings, the debuting TANK 300 Hi4-Z is undoubtedly more appealing.

This system adopts an electric-drive-oriented approach, with its biggest highlight being the SVOLT 59.6 kWh ternary lithium battery pack.

This even surpasses the battery capacity of many pure electric sedans, providing a WLTC pure electric range of up to 200 km.

This means that on weekdays, you can completely treat it as a pure electric commuter vehicle, and on weekends, the dual-motor four-wheel drive and differential lock can take you to most of the places you want to go.

In the hardcore hybrid SUV segment, Tank 300 has a clear advantage in pure electric range. While the BYD Bao 5 only offers a mere 150 km of electric range and falls short of the new Tank 300 in interior space, and the JETOUR Traveler CDM lacks a body-on-frame construction, the new Tank 300 strikes an excellent balance between off-road capability and long-range performance. Thanks to its upgraded dimensions that make it more family-friendly, the Tank 300 is poised to maintain its strong market position.
