【PCauto】The Proton Saga has a long history of nearly four decades and ranks among the most popular compact sedans in Malaysia, surpassing cumulative sales of 2,000,000 units.

As 2025 approaches, speculation regarding the forthcoming generation of the Saga (code-named AMA01) has intensified.

In addition to a comprehensive overhaul characterized by a more high-tech exterior and interior design, the new generation of the Proton Saga is poised to feature substantial enhancements to both its powertrain and safety technologies.

Among the most significant upgrades is the replacement of the previous 1.3L engine with a more robust 1.5L engine, allowing a maximum output of 125 Ps, which markedly improves acceleration and overall driving performance. Besides, the traditional 4-speed automatic transmission will be supplanted by a continuously variable transmission (CVT), improving fuel economy and driving comfort.

Furthermore, the new Proton Saga will be equipped with advanced smart safety technologies, positioning it as a front-runner in its class with the incorporation of the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

This system will be supported by iMotion Technology, a Chinese company involved in the development of ADAS features for the Proton X90.

The ADAS framework in the upcoming Saga will employ an advanced intelligent camera model known as iFC2.0-P, enabling Level 2 assisted driving functionalities, which include Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC Stop & Go), and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA).

In contrast to the X90, the iFC2.0-P intelligent camera featured in the new Saga is more compact and responsive with a new MCU chip.

Within the compact sedan segment in Malaysia, the primary competitor to the Proton Saga is undoubtedly the Perodua Bezza. Despite the Bezza's stronghold in the market—bolstered by its commendable fuel efficiency and reliability—the anticipated enhancements in power, technology, and safety features of the 2025 Saga are poised to challenge the Bezza's dominance.

Moreover, the introduction of ADAS significantly enhances the competitive edge of the Proton Saga. Although the Bezza offers reliable safety features, it currently lacks an ADAS. The Level 2 assisted driving technologies incorporated in the new Saga are expected to markedly improve driving convenience and safety, surpassing the technological capabilities of the Bezza.

The launch of the new Saga is anticipated to bolster Proton's market performance, establishing the vehicle as a renewed favorite within Malaysia's compact sedan sector.
