Meet MG Cyber X:The World's First Boxy Car for Young Global Drivers

【PCauto】 At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, the all-new concept car Cyber X under MG made its global debut. The automaker officially describes this model as "the world's first boxy car for young global consumers."
MG Cyber X is designed by Jozef Kaban, the original designer of Bugatti Veyron. As an exploratory design work for the global market, it is positioned as a “global urban adventure toy”, aiming to use symbolized design element to create a fashionable car that can highlight the adventurous feature for the new generation of young people.
In terms of exterior design, the MG Cyber X adopts a box-style design. However, the overall contour of the vehicle incorporates many rounded elements, and it is not a traditional rough and purely hardcore off-road styling. The whole vehicle delivers a rugged feel, but the lines are rounded and smooth.
The front face of the car has a square and straight contour, with robust protruding lines on both sides of the front hood, showing a sense of power. The headlights adopt a split design, the upper part is a through-type light strip, equipped with a luminous MG logo, and the lower part is a square light group.
The MG Cyber X has a square-shaped body with black A-pillars and B-pillars that make the roof look like it's floating. It comes with strong-looking silver and black wheels, wide fenders above the wheels, and hidden door handles. The back window line goes up slightly, and the thick D-pillar gives it a rugged look.
The rear of the car does not adopt the common "square box" SUV design of hanging tire or small backpack, but highlights the through taillight design, and the tail label can also glow.
The color sprayed on the surface of the vehicle is also very unique, showing a matte sandstone texture when stationary, and spinning out the ripple of the glass curtain wall light and shadow when moving, coupled with the classic flip lamp design of the last century, brings a visual effect with a strong sense of high-level.
Positioned as an urban explorer rather than hardcore off-roader, the Cyber X balances light off-road capability with city commuting and camping versatility, perfectly for young people who want a car for daily commutes and weekend adventures.
The MG Cyber X, based on the SAIC Group's E3 pure electric platform, adopts a CTB body-battery integrated design. This design enhances the rigidity of the body and effectively reduces the weight of the body, thus increasing the range. In addition, the new car may be equipped with semi-solid-state batteries and advanced driving assistance features.
The appearance of the MG Cyber X marks the brand image transformation of the MG brand from track-focused to a more versatile brand image catering to diverse scenarios.
With its boxy vehicle design, MG aims to enter multiple market segments including off-road, urban commuting, and outdoor leisure activities, appealing to a broader young consumer base.
In this era where electrification and smart technologies are deeply integrated, MG has refreshed its brand image with vibrant orange hues symbolizing energy and passion. Whether the Cyber X can truly become the "first boxy car" favored by young people worldwide remains to be proven by the automobile market.
