Mitsubishi Xpander Redesign: 4AT+1.5L Power Dated, Only 2 Safety Airbags!

On September 19, the redesigned Mitsubishi Xpander was launched in the domestic market. This upgraded MPV is equipped with common enhancements in mid-term model upgrades such as new panels, lighting, instrument panel design and extra equipment. However, the power system continues to use the 105 PS/141 Nm 1.5 litre naturally aspirated engine and the old 4AT, instead of the CVT used in other ASEAN countries currently on sale. On this, its CEO Shinya Ikeda stated that it was due to factors such as reliability, durability, and driving response that CVT was not adopted.

There are two models of Mitsubishi Xpander available in the domestic market, with a price range of RM 99,980-109,980, positioned as a B-segment MPV model.
2024 Mitsubishi Xpander: RM 99,980
2024 Mitsubishi Xpander Plus: RM 109,980

Judging from the current market development, using 4AT can no longer meet the needs of consumers, because even the more conservative Toyota has already started to use 6AT. Not only that, the torque power of the 1.5NA engine is obviously a bit unable to keep up with the pace of the times, pairing with 1.6 or higher versions of turbo may be more appropriate.

If using 4AT can be barely acceptable, the attention of Mitsubishi Xpander to the safety system is even more inadequate. Currently, the active safety system only has ABS/EBD, ESC and seatbelt reminder systems. Among the passive safety systems, there are only two safety airbags, which seem to be out of place and even a bit behind in the intelligent safety reform driven by today's electric vehicles.
