[PCauto] NIO recently announced a collaboration with Singapore’s premium automotive group Wearnes Automotive, aiming to launch its first right-hand-drive model, Firefly, in the Singapore market by 2026. This move marks NIO’s official entry into the right-hand-drive car market.
Wearnes Automotive, a top-tier automotive distributor in the Asia-Pacific region with extensive experience in luxury brands, will provide strong support for NIO's global strategy through this partnership.
Firefly, a premium small electric vehicle under NIO
Firefly is the third brand introduced by NIO, positioned as an intelligent, high-end small electric vehicle targeting global markets. This model was officially launched on April 19, 2025, in the Chinese market with a price range of RMB 119,800-125,800 (approximately MYR 71,000-75,000). For those opting for the BaaS battery rental program, the price can be reduced to RMB 79,800-85,800 (approximately MYR 47,000-51,000).
Firefly’s dimensions are as follows:
Length: 4003mm
Width: 1781mm
Height: 1557mm
Wheelbase: 2615mm. It is equipped with a 42.1kWh LFP battery, offering a CLTC range of 420 kilometers. The vehicle supports fast-charging, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in only 29 minutes.
In terms of design, firefly adopts a closed front grille and sharp headlights, creating a futuristic visual effect. The front headlights support welcome lighting effects, farewell lighting effects, and turn signal interaction functions.
The side profile of the car is simple and smooth, featuring a two-tone design and 18-inch six-spoke aerodynamic wheels.
The rear end adopts a three-point taillight design combined with a blacked-out spoiler, enhancing its sporty attributes.
The interior embraces a minimalist style, equipped with a 13.2-inch 2.5K HD central control screen and a 6-inch instrument cluster. The driver and passenger seats are connected by a through-type central console design for easier interaction. In terms of materials, it uses recyclable fabrics and solvent-free leather, and all soft-touch materials in the car meet infant-safety standards.
Smart features are a highlight of firefly
Firefly is equipped with the Lumo intelligent companion system, supporting GPT continuous commands, see-and-speak functionality, large model chatting, and role-playing features. The entertainment system includes 14 speakers, 7.1 Dolby Atmos, and 256-color ambient lighting.
The power system adopts a single-motor layout with a maximum power of 105kW. The suspension system uses a front MacPherson and rear five-link structure, calibrated by the Morgan-Marte team.
In terms of safety, the body is made up of 83.4% high-strength steel and aluminum alloy, with torsional rigidity leading its class. All models come standard with 9 airbags, with side curtains covering the A-pillar to the C-pillar.
The intelligent assistance system includes NOP intelligent navigation assistance and APA all-scenario parking assistance, supporting scenarios such as narrow road parking and low-clearance parking spaces.
Firefly's sales have been steadily increasing since its launch
In terms of market performance, Firefly has seen gradual growth in sales since its launch in April 2025. Sales reached 3,932 units in June 2025, 2,366 units in July, and weekly sales of 875 units in August, representing a month-on-month growth of 27.9%.
Firefly is positioned against competitors such as the MINI, smart#1, and Volkswagen ID.3, emphasizing design aesthetics, service experience, and loading capacity.
NIO plans to launch a "special edition" based on the European version, with a greater focus on handling, expected to be unveiled at NIO Day in September 2025.
The Singapore market is a key part of NIO's global expansion plan for 2025-2026
In addition to Singapore, NIO also plans to enter the Uzbekistan and Costa Rica markets during the same period. According to NIO's Q1 2025 financial report, the company is accelerating its globalization efforts through new market expansions and R&D investments, with research and development expenses reaching 3.18 billion RMB, an increase of 11.1% year-on-year.
The right-hand drive version of firefly will share NIO's battery swapping and charging network. A battery leasing plan was launched in August 2025 to further lower the car purchase threshold for users.
