Nissan stops developing fuel engines, fully betting on electrification: e-POWER becomes the transition
AshleyJun 06, 2024, 02:46 PM
In an interview, Nissan's senior vice president for Africa, the Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania, Francois Bailly, said that Nissan's e-POWER hybrid system is a "stepping stone" to full electrification, and the company will not invest in new gasoline engine power systems. Although Nissan will continue to offer gasoline-powered cars with existing engines, this decision marks that Nissan will part ways with other competitors and gradually stop developing new gasoline engines.

The application time of the Nissan e-POWER system is not so long. The system includes a gasoline engine with a generator, an inverter, a battery and an electric motor. It was first applied to the compact family car Nissan Note in Japan in 2017, and the car became the best-selling car in Japan in 2018.
Nissan's determination to electrify was well known as early as last year. In September 2023, Nissan announced plans to achieve full electrification of the European market by 2030. And in November, it reiterated that all new models in the European market will be electric vehicles in the future, which shows Nissan's firm belief in the electrification strategy.
Facing the impact of the new era wave, some Japanese car companies choose to go in a different direction from Nissan. On May 28 in Tokyo, Japan, the heads of Toyota, Mazda and Subaru came out together and promised to continue to invest in internal combustion engine technology and assist the decarbonization of internal combustion engines by making them compatible with green alternative fuels (such as biofuels and synthetic fuels) through the combination of internal combustion engine and electrification technology.

Perodua Traz VS Toyota Yaris Cross, where does the Traz fall short?
Before the official launch of the Perodua Traz, market expectations were actually very high because it shares the same DNGA platform as the Toyota Yaris Cross. However, sharing the same platform does not equate to the same experience, and the Traz's final performance has indeed been disappointing. Perhaps it is precisely because of the delayed launch that it has almost no competitiveness in the current competitive environment.
