【PCauto】The BYD FangChengBao Tai 3 has made its debut in China. Different from BYD's conservative styling, as one of the FangChengBao series, the Tai 3 adopts a mecha-inspired aesthetic, exuding a strong sense of technology and the future.

In terms of pricing, the Tai 3 is offered in five different variants:
· 501km Rear-Wheel Drive Smart Pro: Approximately RM80,854
· 501km Rear-Wheel Drive Smart Max: Approximately RM84,470
· 501km All-Wheel Drive Smart Max: Approximately RM92,845
· 501km All-Wheel Drive Smart Ultra: Approximately RM98,972
· 501km All-Wheel Drive (with drone): Approximately RM116,902
This price range is closely aligned with the Yuan Plus (known as the Atto 3), and in certain aspects, the entry-level Tai 3 offers better value compared to the top-tier Yuan Plus (priced around RM82,030 in China).
The Tai 3 stands out from the Yuan Plus in terms of spatial design, featuring an extended wheelbase of 2745mm—25mm longer than that of the Yuan Plus—which, combined with a width of 1900mm, provides a more spacious rear cabin.

The Tai 3 boasts numerous innovative storage solutions, including a 151L frunk, a 28L tailgate backpack compartment, and an eco-cockpit, achieving a total storage space of 1346L. It can easily accommodate three 28-inch suitcases and one drone case (in the top spec). Whether for outdoor camping gear such as tents and cooking equipment or photography enthusiasts needing space for their gear, the Tai 3 handles it all with ease.

The Tai 3's rear-wheel drive version achieves a 0-100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds, comparable to the Yuan Plus at 7.9 seconds. However, the rear-wheel layout provides the Tai 3 with superior weight distribution, achieving a front-to-rear axle weight ratio of 48:52. This advantage minimizes body roll by 15% when cornering at high speeds, offering drivers a more stable and smooth handling experience, balancing speed with safety and comfort.

With a top speed of 201 km/h, the Tai 3 outpaces the Yuan Plus's 160 km/h by 25.6%, enhancing its performance in intercity highway scenarios.

To further boost handling capabilities, the Tai 3 comes standard with the iTAC torque control system, which responds to wheel slip in just 0.01 seconds, promptly adjusting torque output to ensure stability. All-wheel drive models are equipped with the Yunnian-C intelligent suspension, allowing users to switch between "drift mode" and "comfort mode" at the push of a button. Whether on the racetrack for high-speed driving or navigating urban roads smoothly, the Tai 3 adapts to user preferences for optimal driving performance.

In the realm of battery technology, the Tai 3 showcases impressive capabilities. The rear-wheel drive model features a 400V platform that supports 195kW fast charging, requiring only 25 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. The all-wheel drive model is upgraded to an 800V platform with charging power boosted to 237kW, offering a 40% increase in charging efficiency compared to the Yuan Plus, significantly reducing overall waiting times for users and enhancing the convenience of electric vehicle ownership.

Additionally, the Tai 3 is equipped with a 6kW discharge feature, capable of powering outdoor electrical devices, making it an excellent solution for outdoor activities—whether using an electric grill during a picnic or powering lights while camping, the Tai 3 meets all such needs effortlessly.

In terms of smart configurations, the Tai 3 is loaded with DiPilot 100, a high-level intelligent driving system, featuring 12 cameras and 5 millimeter-wave radars, enabling advanced functions such as highway navigation, automatic parking, and remote parking assistance.

Compared to the DiPilot 100 in the Yuan Plus, the Tai 3 offers an even richer set of features, including “memory parking” and “remote summon,” enhancing the overall driving experience for users.

While the Tai 3's rear-wheel drive version is priced lower than the top variant of the Yuan Plus, it surpasses Yuan Plus comprehensively in terms of power, space, and features. This cost-effectiveness is expected to capture 30% of the potential customer base of Yuan Plus.

As a manufacturer with a diverse product lineup, BYD inevitably faces price overlaps among its models. In the face of the Tai 3's strong entry into the market, the Yuan Plus is left with little choice but to lower its prices for competition.

However, the Yuan Plus, as a flagship model under BYD, has achieved remarkable success globally with the Atto 3 branding, which has accumulated over 790,000 units sold since its launch and being exported to around 110 countries.
In various countries and regions including Thailand, Israel, and Singapore, the Yuan Plus has consistently led sales charts.

In the Chinese market, the Yuan Plus has also delivered impressive sales volume, claiming the sales champion among all SUVs just 14 months post-launch, exceeding 410,000 units in total sales for 2023, with three consecutive months in Q4 surpassing 30,000 units sold.

In 2024, the Yuan Plus continues to maintain stable and high sales, ranking among the top four in all SUV categories in the Chinese market in the first half of the year. These figures highlight the strong demand for the Yuan Plus.
However, the arrival of the FangChengBao Tai 3 offers consumers a superior alternative to the Yuan Plus. With its unique design, excellent space utilization, powerful performance, advanced battery technology, and extensive smart features, the Tai 3 has positioned itself as the better choice over the Yuan Plus.
