Perodua and Proton: Actively Responding to Create Domestic Electric Cars!
WilliamOct 25, 2024, 10:47 AM
The Malaysian government is vigorously promoting the development of electric vehicles, and the local car manufacturers Perodua and Proton have responded positively. Perodua expects to launch electric vehicles priced below RM100,000 by the end of 2025. Perodua has previously displayed an electric vehicle prototype modified from Perodua Myvi at the 2024 Malaysian Auto Show. It's worth mentioning that Perodua will collaborate with several local universities such as the National Energy University, University of Kuala Lumpur, and University of Botra in Malaysia to develop the power test bench for electric vehicles.

Perodua and Proton are both proud of the Malaysian automotive industry. Perodua attracts consumers with its affordable prices and localized advantages, while Proton has certain technical advantages through its cooperation with the international automotive company Geely. The Proton e.MAS 7 is the first electric model launched by Proton. It is a C-Segment SUV developed jointly with Geely. The vehicle has been localized in design and engineering to meet the specific needs of the Malaysian market.

The introduction of the 2025 budget has injected new vitality into the electric vehicle industry in Malaysia. Through a series of preferential policies such as tax reductions and the construction of charging infrastructure, the government encourages consumers to purchase and use electric vehicles. Among them, the tax benefits policy for locally assembled electric motorcycles and electric vehicle charging facilities is particularly noteworthy. In addition, the government plans to build charging piles on a large scale nationwide to provide strong support for the popularization of electric vehicles.

With the support of government policies and the active participation of local car manufacturers, the electric car market in Malaysia is showing a booming development trend. However, the electric vehicle market in Malaysia still faces some challenges, such as the speed of charging infrastructure construction, the reduction of battery costs, and consumer awareness of electric vehicles, etc. The government's emphasis on electric vehicle development brings new opportunities for the local automobile industry.
