Perodua Invests RM2 Billion in Capacity Upgrade
Perodua Plans Three New Energy Models with Different Powertrains

[PCauto] Since the launch of Myvi, Perodua has become a mainstream model in Malaysia due to its affordable price and reliable durability.
However, currently, Perodua is initiating a large-scale strategic adjustment to update the powertrain of this flagship model. It plans to invest RM2 billion to upgrade its capacity and lay out three new energy vehicle models, officially transitioning from a single internal combustion engine manufacturer to a diversified powertrain product lineup.
Perodua's factory located in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, has an annual production capacity of approximately 350,000 vehicles. However, the actual sales in 2024 reached 368,100 units, exceeding the combined total capacity of 320,000 vehicles of its two factories, causing the factories to operate under over-capacity conditions for a long time.
To address this issue, Perodua has allocated RM1.3 billion for upgrading its production facilities, including RM1 billion for building a new body and paint factory and RM300 million for expanding the stamping production line, providing hardware support for the mass production of new energy vehicles.

The three new models are not merely simple replacements of powertrains but are based on Perodua's QV-E platform, sharing a unified manufacturing standard and technical architecture to cater to different consumer needs.
- The all-new generation Myvi HEV will continue the core advantages of this model, integrating a hybrid system while maintaining practicality and reliability;
- A lower-positioned A-segment pure electric hatchback, priced below the existing Ativa and Myvi models;
- The range-extended powertrain model balances the economic advantages of short-distance pure electric driving with the convenience of long-distance travel, addressing range anxiety through engine-generated electricity.

The market performance of the all-new Myvi HEV is critical to the success of Perodua's transition to new energy.
As the brand's flagship model, the Myvi has long been a leader in sales, achieving a single-month sales volume of 6,193 vehicles in November 2024. The performance of its hybrid version will directly determine Perodua's brand recognition in the field of new energy.

Although Perodua's fuel cars sell well, due to its over-reliance on Toyota and Daihatsu, Perodua's R&D and supply chain development have been limited, leading to heavy criticism of the QV-E after its price announcement.
Fortunately, Perodua responded quickly and has now started upgrading its factories, otherwise, it would have fallen further behind Proton and Geely.
