[PCauto] At the recent opening ceremony of the new electric vehicle factory in Tanjung Malim, Proton showcased the upcoming fourth-generation Proton Saga for the first time through a promotional video. This model will be built on the Proton AMA platform.
The video reveals key specifications of the new Proton Saga
Although Proton has not officially announced detailed specifications, the video confirms several key details, marking another evolution for Proton in the compact sedan segment.
The fourth-generation Saga is expected to be officially released in the coming months as part of Proton's 2025 product plan. The pure electric model, e.MAS 5, highlights the brand's accelerated progress in its dual-track strategy of traditional fuel and electrification.

From a design perspective, the fourth-generation Proton Saga adopts a completely new exterior style, with a refreshed headlamp design and a through-type tail lamp layout. Its lighting signature is similar to that of the Proton S70, enhancing the vehicle's modernity and recognition. However, the side mirrors seem to be carried over from the current model, possibly for cost optimization considerations.
In terms of interior, the new car introduces oval-shaped air conditioning vents, an integrated infotainment screen, and a fully digital instrument panel. However, it remains unclear whether these configurations will be standard across all trims or exclusive to the top-tier version.

May Adopt the Same Engine as the New Proton X50
Proton has confirmed that the all-new Saga will be equipped with a new engine derived from Geely's existing powertrain, but with exclusive tuning tailored for the Saga.
Specifically, it is expected that the new Proton Saga will use a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, and it might be the same engine model as found in the new Proton X50.
This engine belongs to the BHE15 series developed by Horse Powertrain (a joint venture between Geely Group and Renault), offering both naturally aspirated direct injection and manifold injection versions. The latter is more likely to be used in the Saga, with an output of 99 to 110 hp, which is a significant improvement compared to the current model's 1.3-liter engine (95 hp and 120 Nm).

Fourth-Generation Proton Saga Introduces ADAS for the First Time
Although the complete list of features has not been disclosed, the video confirms basic functions such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).
This signifies Proton's advancements in active safety technology. The current Saga is priced between RM38,800 and RM44,800, and the price of the new generation model might slightly increase due to technological upgrades. However, Proton typically focuses on value-for-money to maintain its competitiveness in the compact sedan market.

Proton is still a high-value choice for consumers
By leveraging Geely's technical resources, the fourth-generation Proton Saga has been comprehensively upgraded in terms of design, performance, and safety, while maintaining its localized characteristics.
For consumers, the Proton Saga remains a high-value choice, supporting daily commuting and family use.
At the new factory site, Proton stated that it will launch at least three new models in the future to further enrich its lineup and respond to market changes.
