What is Tesla Super Charging?

Super Charging

Supercharging stations are usually located near restaurants, shopping centers, WiFi hotspots and other places with convenient transportation and parking for relaxation. Each supercharging station has multiple charging piles to quickly replenish power.

The following are the detailed rules of use for the Supercharging network, which apply to all Tesla vehicles:

In mainland China, supercharging services are billed by power (kWh), which is also the fairest, simplest way to calculate the actual energy used. The actual cost of supercharging services varies based on the construction and operating costs of the charging station, as well as the local guidance price for charging new energy vehicles. Real-time prices can be viewed in the built-in navigation app in your car's touchscreen. Some vehicles have free supercharging quotas. Exceeding the quota will result in standard supercharging fees.

Supercharging is easy to operate. After inserting the charging connector, you can start charging. Your supercharging history will be displayed on your Tesla account, including remaining free quota and bill amount (if applicable). Tesla promises that Supercharging services are not for profit.

How to find a Tesla Supercharging Station?

Finding a Supercharging Station

1.How do I find all Supercharging Stations locations?

Visit the Tesla charging map to find a charging station near you.

2.Are Supercharging Stations open 24 hours a day?

Most Supercharging Stations provide 24 hour charging services, but surrounding places and facilities have their own opening hours.

3.If there is a Supercharging Station near my home, do I need to install home charging equipment?

For Tesla owners, home charging is the most convenient and efficient way to charge, adequate to meet your daily travel charging needs. We recommend that owners with conditions install their own charging piles at their residences or offices. Supercharging Stations are more suitable for long-distance travel or short-distance outings.

4.How to accurately locate the position of the Supercharging Station?

Your vehicle's touchscreen navigation can display GPS location information for the Supercharging Station. On-board navigation can plan routes to the entrance of the nearby charging station. Zoom in on the map to view the precise location of the charging station. For more location information, please click on the red lightning symbol of the charging station.

5.How does Tesla determine the location selection of Supercharging Stations?

The position and distribution of Tesla Supercharging Stations aim to meet the charging needs of long-distance travel and suburban areas. We calculate the optimal mileage range precisely based on the vehicle energy consumption model, and then build Supercharging Stations near hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers to enable owners to take a short break during charging. Apply to become a Tesla charging partner to attract more Tesla owners to visit your property.

How to use the Tesla Super Charging Pile?

How to use Tesla Super Charging Pile

1.How to use the supercharging pile for charging?

When the vehicle is parked, plug the charger of the supercharging pile into the vehicle charging interface. Once successfully connected, the vehicle charging indicator light will flash green, indicating that charging has begun. You can use the Tesla mobile app to check the charging progress.

2.How do I plan my trip based on the location of the Supercharging Station?

The built-in trip planning program on the vehicle's touchscreen will automatically calculate a route for you that reaches your destination via Supercharging Stations. In addition, all Supercharging Station locations will be displayed in the vehicle navigation program to assist you in planning your route.

3.How do I know the charging rate of the station before I arrive at the Supercharging Station?

The vehicle navigation will show the maximum output power of each Supercharging Station. You can also view this information on the Tesla official website charging map.

4.This supercharging wasn't as fast as I expected. What could be the reason?

After your vehicle successfully connects to the supercharging pile, it will automatically match a suitable charging rate for charging the vehicle. The actual supercharging rate can vary due to the remaining battery power, battery temperature, load on the Supercharging Station, and extreme weather conditions. When the battery power is low, the charging speed is fast; when the battery is about to be full, the charging speed will slow down. Depending on the distance to your next destination, you usually don't need to charge the battery to 100%.

5.Does supercharging have an impact on the vehicle battery?

Frequent use of Tesla Supercharging piles for charging (or charging by other fast charging methods) can slightly reduce the peak charging speed of the battery. To ensure maximum driving range and battery safety, the charging speed will drop when the battery temperature is very low, the power is nearly full, and the battery condition changes due to use and aging. Changes in battery condition may gradually increase the supercharging time, delaying it by a few minutes each time.

6.How do I get the supercharging pile to work at maximum power to shorten the charging time?

Each supercharging pile is marked with a number and letter combination identifier (such as 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B), and two charging piles with the same number share a distribution cabinet. When charging piles A and B are both connected to vehicles, the distribution cabinet dynamically allocates power, supplying power to vehicles A and B simultaneously. Therefore, if you want to charge faster, choose a charging pile with a number identifier not occupied by other vehicles, or share a charging pile with the same number identifier as a car that is about to finish charging.

7.Can taxis, internet cars and other operating vehicles use the Tesla Supercharging Station Network?

We welcome vehicles that follow the service payment terms to use the Tesla Supercharging Network, including commercial vehicles. Vehicles that enjoy unlimited free supercharging services or enjoy free supercharging services during the use of the vehicle may not use the Supercharging Network if they are operated for commercial purposes. For more details, please refer to the Supercharging Station Reasonable Use Policy. If you are a commercial operator, please ensure that your vehicle charging service is pay-per-use after using the Supercharging Network. If you want to learn about other private and public charging solutions, please contact us.

8.What should I do if a non-Tesla vehicle occupies a supercharging spot?

Most supercharging spots are Tesla dedicated charging spots, but there are also some general spots, please check the instructions on the parking spot. If a non-Tesla vehicle occupies a Tesla exclusive supercharging spot, please call Tesla Customer Support: 400-910-0707.

9.Can supercharging be used in rainy and snowy weather?

Yes. Tesla car was designed to consider the impact of bad weather like rain and snow on charging. However, in extreme weather conditions, the charging time may change.

10.What other charging options are available?

In addition to Tesla Supercharging Stations and Tesla Destination Charging Stations, all public charging stations that comply with the new national standard for charging can also charge Tesla vehicles.

11.What should I do if I encounter problems during charging?

Please call Tesla Customer Support: 400-910-0707.

V3 Supercharging Stations

V3 Supercharging Stations

1.When will I be able to use V3 Supercharging Stations in my area?

In June 2019, we built the first permanent public V3 Supercharging Station at our Tesla factory in Fremont, California. In December 2019, the first Tesla V3 Supercharging Station in Asia was officially opened in Jinqiao, Shanghai. In 2020, we will continue to expand V3 infrastructure globally.

2.Can all Tesla vehicles use V3 Supercharging piles to charge?

All Teslas fitted with the new national standard charging interface can use V3 Super Charging piles to charge.Currently, the V3 supercharging piles can also support charging through adapters, and Teslas with non-new national standard (IEC Type 2) charging interfaces can also charge at the V3 Supercharging Station.

3.What is the peak charging power of the V3 Supercharging pile?

The peak charging power of the V3 Supercharging Station can reach 250kW.

4.Can all Tesla vehicles charge at a maximum power of 250kW?

V3 supercharging piles use a new architecture and share electricity for the entire station when neighboring vehicles are charging at the same time, so the efficiency is higher. However, the actual peak charging power of each car may vary due to factors such as battery capacity, battery life, charging status, ambient temperature, charging interface type, etc.
