[PCauto] The current second-generation Fortuner has been on the market for over ten years since its launch in 2015.
Despite undergoing several facelifts and the addition of Legender/GR Sport versions, the current Fortuner does show its age in terms of interior quality, chassis refinement, and intelligent driving assistance systems, especially when compared to the fully upgraded Ford Everest.

Upgraded to TNGA-F platform
TNGA-F is a platform specifically designed for ladder-frame body-on-frame vehicles. It has been widely adopted in the Land Cruiser 300, Lexus LX, and the all-new Land Cruiser Prado.
Compared to the existing IMV platform, the TNGA-F's advantages include improved body rigidity achieved through the use of high-tensile steel, along with a lower center of gravity, which is expected to reduce the jolting sensation during high-speed driving and enhance driving quality in PPV models.
Retain the 2.8 L 1GD-FTV diesel engine
In terms of the powertrain, Toyota clearly has no plans to completely abandon the traditional advantages of diesel engines. However, to meet increasingly stringent emission regulations, the integration of electrical assistance is inevitable.
The new car is expected to continue using the existing 2.8 L 1GD-FTV turbocharged diesel engine, but a 48 V mild-hybrid system will be added.
This system provides extra power assistance during startup and acceleration through the integrated starter generator (ISG), while also optimizing fuel consumption.
Additionally, the rumored 2.4 L Turbo Hybrid system is mentioned, which has been highly praised in North America. If introduced to the Southeast Asian market, it will greatly enhance its competitiveness in urban driving conditions.
What changes will the design of the new-generation Fortuner have?
In terms of exterior design, we can refer to the recently released North American version of Tacoma or 4Runner.
The new Fortuner is expected to abandon the current rounded lines and switch to a more muscular and three-dimensional design.
A larger hexagonal radiator grille, sharper LED headlamps, and stronger wheel arches are anticipated design adjustments.
As for the interior, the new 12.3-inch digital cockpit and a fully upgraded Toyota Safety Sense will be included in the configuration list.

Will the price increase?
Considering the increased platform costs and the introduction of new technology, a price increase is almost inevitable. The starting price of the new generation model is likely to see a 5% to 10% hike.
As the benchmark in this segment, Fortuner has always dominated the market with its reputation for "unbreakable" reliability and high resale value.
While modern consumers are increasingly valuing the luxury feel and technological features of interiors, for Fortuner's loyal fans, the reliable chassis that can take you over mountains and across valleys and bring you home safely is its true essence.
