Meet Ferrari's New Track Beast: 296 VS Debuts on April 29

【PCauto】It's said that Ferrari may globally launch its new high-performance track version, the 296 VS (Versione Speciale), through the official MyFerrari app on April 29, 2025.

As an upgraded version of the 296 GTB, the 296 VS focuses on excellent track performance, equipped with a retuned 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with a maximum output of 819 horsepower and a peak torque of 740N·m. It adopts lightweight materials like carbon fiber to increase the power-to-weight ratio, further enhancing its track performance.
The power system of the 296 VS has been meticulously calibrated based on the regular version, achieving more efficient output by optimizing the turbocharging system and fuel injection efficiency. A lightweight body design (about 50 kg reduction) and upgraded aerodynamic kit significantly improved its cornering stability and straight-line acceleration.

Although some media speculated that its hybrid system's combined output may approach 900 horsepower, Ferrari has not officially confirmed any specifications. Full technical details will be revealed at the official launch event.
The new model features a streamlined front fascia with the horizontal LED headlights and enlarged air intakes working together to meet the needs of cooling efficiency and aerodynamics. The rear maintains the central single-exhaust layout while incorporating a larger diffuser and adjustable spoiler to enhance downforce during high-speed driving.

The 296 VS is expected to be equipped with a new generation of driver assistance systems, optimizing steering response and suspension tuning through software upgrades to provide a precise control support for professional track driving.
Demand for high-performance sports vehicles in Southeast Asia has been growing in recent years, especially among high-net-worth consumers in Thailand and Malaysia. Ferrari showrooms in Bangkok, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia have become important bases for its brand in Southeast Asia.

The track-focused feature of the 296 VS is perfectly in line with the features of local increasingly active automobile racing culture. For example, the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia always hosts various professional events all year round. The design of high heat dissipation efficiency of the new vehicle (such as the optimized intake system) can adapt to the high temperature and high humidity climate in Southeast Asia, providing drivers with stable performance. In addition, local automobile races in Thailand such as the Bangsaen Grand Prix has attracted a large number of sports car enthusiasts. The release of the 296 VS may further promote the development of the local economy of track experience.

The 296 VS directly competes with models like the McLaren Artura and Porsche 911 GT3 RS, adopting a pure internal combustion engine strategy that differentiates it from hybrid-powered rivals. While some early reports mentioned potential plug-in hybrid variants, current information focuses on the meticulous tuning of traditional powertrains, which shows Ferrari's intention to reinforce its technical leadership in traditional sports car while meeting the demand of professional drivers' pursuit of mechanical purity.
