The New Era of Autonomous Driving: GAC Aion & Didi Joint Venture Approved, Accelerating the Commercialization of L4 Technology

On April 7, GAC-AION and DiDi Autonomous Driving announced that their joint venture company, Guangzhou AnDi Technology Co., Ltd., had been approved for a business license. This is the first joint venture established in China by an L4 autonomous driving company and an automobile manufacturer for the purpose of producing Robotaxis.
According to the standards of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), driving automation is divided into 6 levels from L0 to L5, where L0-L2 levels are known as "driver assistance systems", and L3-L5 levels are known as "automated driving systems", which means that vehicles that reach the L3 level can be called "autonomous driving".
The first unmanned vehicle to be jointly developed is a crossover SUV, based on GAC-AION's AEP3.0 high-end pure electric platform and the high-end electronic electric architecture. It will also be equipped with DiDi's full set of autonomous driving software and hardware solutions, a safety redundancy system, and the latest generation of cabin entertainment systems designed for unmanned travel services. It is reported that this model is in the process of a joint review of design and styling, and it is planned to achieve a total production of 100,000 units next year.
In May 2023, GAC AION and DiDi Autonomous Driving Company signed an in-depth cooperation agreement, jointly launched the autonomous driving new energy vehicle project - "AIDI Plan", and announced the establishment of the joint venture company Andy Technology. The joint venture company is headquartered in Huangpu, Guangzhou, China, with a registered capital of 420 million RMB (approximately 2.13 billion Thai Baht), and 50% of the shares are held by GAC-AION and DiDi Autonomous Driving respectively.
On April 6, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on social media that Tesla will launch its autonomous taxi (Robotaxi) product on August 8. So far, Musk has not revealed more details about the launch of the Robotaxi product.
