BYD YANGWANG U7 Launches with World's First Suspension Charging Tech

[PCauto] On March 27, BYD YANGWANG U7 was launched, available in four models, with both power versions of pure electric and plug-in hybrid.

Yunnian - Z Electric Control Suspension

Among those innovative technologies, Yunnian - Z electric suspension is the most worth receiving attention. Its key innovation lies in its ability to generate the electricity for the vehicle through the suspension system.

Yunnian - Z electric control suspension is the worldwide first suspension motor direct drive technology. It no longer adopts the traditional oil medium adjustment method, directly converting electric energy into kinetic energy output to achieve vertical body control.

As for control execution, the Yunnian-Z can complete the execution within 5 milliseconds, dozens of times faster than traditional active suspensions, while the precision of adjustment in body height achieving 1 millimeter.

As mentioned before, Yunnian - Z also has the energy recovery function. The suspension motor can convert the bump kinetic energy during driving into electric energy. When passing over a road hump, the maximum recovery power can reach 500W, thus increasing the range by about 3%.

In terms of active safety, Yunnian - Z can achieve three-wheel driving. When the vehicle's single wheel bursts, the suspension will automatically lift the damaged wheel, with the remaining three wheels  independently driven, allowing the vehicle to maintain a driving speed of 80km/h for 30 kilometers. In the snow/ ice Mode, high-frequency micro vibration of the suspension (50 times per second) can break the vacuum adsorption effect between the tire and the ice surface, effectively shortening the ice braking distance by 11%.

e⁴ platform technology

As the typical technology of YANGWANG series, the e⁴ platform's four-wheel independent torque control system promotes the YANGWANG U7 to achieve outstanding performance and unique handling capabilities. The vehicle's four-motor independent drive power system can bursts out more than 1300 horsepower, achieving a 0-100km/h acceleration score of just 2.9 seconds.

The e⁴ technology can precisely adjust the dynamic of the vehicle's four wheels independently in milliseconds through the highly perceptive electric drive system. This feature enables the YANGWANG U7 to have all-terrain turn-in-place capability, which can turn easily even in narrow spaces; the high-speed tire burst steady function significantly improves the safety of the vehicle in emergencies, even when a tire bursts at high speed, the vehicle can still maintain a stable posture to ensure the safety of passengers; the parallel lateral parking function is the world-first parking function, allowing the vehicle to "sideways walk" like a crab, easily handling various complex parking situations.

Bidirectional 20-degree Intelligent Rear-wheel Steering Technolog

The Bidirectional 20-degree Intelligent Rear-wheel Steering Technology allows YANGWANG U7, which is the large-size D-segment sedan, to achieve the flexibility comparable to an A0 compact car. This technology enables the rear wheels to turn in-phase or out-of-phase with fornt wheels; even the two rear wheels can steer independently, presenting "toe-in" or "toe-out"postures. Combined with e⁴ steering, dramatically reduces turing radius of the vehicle, thus its easy to drive on the narrow road and park the vehicle. Meanwhile, synchronized rear-wheel steering can improve the driving stability and safety at highway speeds.

DiPilot 600 Intelligent Driving System

In the field of intelligent driving, YANGWANG U7 is equipped with the DiPilot600 Intelligent Driving System. This system incorporates:

• Dual Orin-X chips delivering 508 TOPS of computing power

Boxer Engine

The YANGWANG U7 PHEV is equipped with China's first mass-produced boxer engine, which is decreased to the height of 420mm, far lower than the 700mm+ height of inline engines, achieving the maximum use of the EV front compartment space. The horizontally opposed engine's unique architecture has unique advantages: it can effectively cancel out vibrations during operation, delivering an quiet and smooth driving experience while maintaining a mere 1 dB difference in noise levels between hybrid and pure-electric driving modes.

Compared to traditional luxury brand vehicles, the price of the BYD YANGWANG U7 in China is more competitive, starting from 2,928,500 THB/383,100 RM. Besides that, YANGWANG U7 is also equipped with a 23-speaker dynaudio platinum audio system, quad-motor powertrain delivering 1,300hp (PHEV: 1,360hp), and 720km pure-electric range (PHEV: 1,000km combined range). Luxury vehicles of the same price may not provide similarly high level configurations.
