[PCauto] The Xpeng X9 EREV is confirmed to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. Currently, it has completed the filing process with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
As the brand's first range-extended model, Xpeng places greater emphasis on the X9 EREV than on its previous all-electric (EV) models. It has undergone testing and validation in 20 countries worldwide, accumulating a total mileage of over 20 million kilometers across an 800-day development cycle.
X9 EREV is also Xpeng's first model with an engine
Positioned as a mid-to-large seven-seater MPV, the X9 marks Xpeng's official entry into the range-extended technology segment.
In terms of range, the Xpeng X9 range-extended version offers an all-electric range of over 450 kilometers under CLTC (China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle) standards, meeting the daily commuting needs of most users. Its total combined driving range surpasses 1,600 kilometers, achieved through its "large battery, small fuel tank" design strategy. It is also equipped with a 1.5T range extender delivering a maximum power of 110kW, primarily used for backup power generation.
The vehicle features a 63.3kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, which even exceeds the 62.5kWh battery pack of the 2025 Tesla Model Y rear-wheel-drive version.
With an 800V high-voltage platform and 5C ultra-fast charging technology, the vehicle can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 12 minutes.

X9 EREV will maintain the specifications of the pure electric X9
The Xpeng X9 range-extended version measures 5,316×1,988×1,785mm, with a wheelbase of 3,160mm-slightly larger than its pure electric counterpart.
The interior features a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout, where the third-row seats support one-button electric folding, enhancing practicality and spatial flexibility.
The exterior carries over the design language of the pure electric X9, with the addition of an active front grille. This optimizes cooling efficiency while further improving aerodynamic performance. Iconic design elements-such as the floating roof-are retained.

The X9 EREV comes standard with intelligent dual-chamber air suspension and variable damping shock absorbers across all trims, along with an active rear-wheel steering system, enabling a turning radius of just 5.4 meters. This greatly enhances maneuverability and allows easier passage through narrow roads.
In terms of intelligent driving, the new car is expected to retain the Turing AI driving system used in the pure electric version, supporting highway and urban NOA functions with a commitment to lifetime free usage.

Some have questioned: Is there really a market need for an EREV with a pure electric range of up to 450 kilometers?
Demand for the "large-capacity battery + small-displacement engine" stems from Chinese consumers, designed to completely eliminate charging anxiety and facilitate long-distance travel. However, is this a genuine need? That remains to be verified.
Coincidentally, prior to the X9 EREV, the IM LS6 also adopted this "large-capacity battery + small-displacement engine" technical solution.
From the perspective of traditional automakers with comprehensive product lines, Xpeng and IM’s approach seems misguided.
For a car, when it has several hundred kilometers of pure electric range, it still has to carry an idle engine while driving; when the generator is in use, it carries a large, heavy, empty battery. This design exists merely to accommodate the very rare ultra-long trip-forcing the car to bear the burden of two power systems at all times.

No matter what, there is currently no product on the market quite like the X9 EREV. Regardless of whether the market truly needs it, perhaps there needs to be a product like the X9 EREV to test the waters. Didn't traditional automakers in the past often create ridiculous products designed to cater to non-existent demands?
