On September 13, media reported that XPENG Motors' range-extended vehicle project has completed the setting of core components in the first half of this year, and the first range-extended vehicle is expected to be mass-produced in the second half of 2025. In response, the official of XPENG Motors said: "More information will be shared with friends on 1024 Technology Day." Reportedly, an insider of XPENG Motors revealed that its range-extended vehicle project will be "on the market no later than the fourth quarter of next year". At that time, XPENG will form two major vehicle product arrays with pure electric and range-extended vehicles.

According to insiders, the first range-extended vehicle of XPENG will be a large SUV, with the internal project code of G01. "It is developed based on G9, mainly targeting the price range above 200,000 yuan. The first vehicle will be mass-produced in the second factory of XPENG Motors in Huangpu, Guangzhou, and its range extender supplier, Dongan Power, has been selected." As a reference, Dongan Power previously provided range extender components for Li Auto, and the powertrain of the new 212 off-road vehicle launched in August also came from Dongan Power.

The principle of a range-extended vehicle is to add an internal combustion engine as an auxiliary generator on the basis of a pure electric vehicle. When the battery power is sufficient, it is driven by an electric motor directly; when the power is insufficient, the internal combustion engine starts to charge the battery, thereby extending the driving range. The data shows that the top three car manufacturers in sales of new forces in China are Li Auto, AITO, and Leapmotor. The main models of these three car manufacturers all use range-extended technology. This year, Zeekr, AVITA, IM Motors, AION and others have also successively announced the launch of range-extended vehicle products.

Comment: XPENG's first range-extended vehicle will further enrich XPENG's product portfolio, bring more choices to consumers, promote the growth of XPENG's sales, and cope with the competition in the current auto market. For XPENG, this will be an important turning point in brand development. The advantages of range-extended vehicles combined with XPENG's technology and the accumulation in intelligence will make future products highly anticipated.
