A Preview of the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show: Increasing Number of Pure Electric Vehicles

The 45th Bangkok International Motor Show will be held on March 27, 2024. The theme of this exhibition is "The Mobility of Joyful Experiences": ประสบการณ์แห่งความสนุกของทุกการเดินทาง, with 47 brands participating. Meanwhile, the proportion of new energy vehicles has begun to increase, including 35 regular car brands and 12 new energy vehicle brands, including AION, CHANGAN, NETA, HONRI, POCCO, NEXPOINT, FIREBRIGHT, and the Vietnamese car brand VINFAST, etc. Today, let's take a look at which vehicles are worth paying attention to.

A list of vehicles worth paying attention to at the auto show:

CHANGAN

At the end of 2023, Changan Automobile debuted the new energy products DEEPAL L07 and DEEPAL S07 in the Southeast Asian market, and it will be officially launched at the Thailand International Auto Show on November 29 and officially delivered to the Thai market in December.

At this Bangkok Motor Show, Changan is preparing to launch another electric vehicle for the Thai motor show. It is the small car LUMIN MINI EV with a three-door four-seat layout. First of all, on the front of the car, the LUMIN MINI EV has a cute front face with a closed overall design, and the LUMIN logo is set in the center of the front face.

The oval front headlights are enclosed by LED daytime running lights on the outer edge, and the internal light source is likely to be halogen. Combined with the ornament on the upper part of the light group, it looks like an eye with eyelids.

The LUMIN MINI EV has a body length of 3270mm, a width of 1700mm, a height of 1545mm, and a wheelbase of 1980mm. The body features a dual-color design and comes equipped with hidden door handles. And it rides on 14-inch three-spoke alloy wheels.

The taillight shape and the front headlights play the role of echoing, and the shape is also similar to the effect of blinking eyes.

The interior layout is simple and wrapped in a two-tone collage material, where the colors are consistent with the exterior colors. The interior has a 7-inch floating full LCD dashboard and a three-spoke steering wheel.

The 10.25-inch floating central control large screen supports smartphone interconnection, voice commands, and Bluetooth connection, and supports OTA updates and 4G network connections. There is a knob-type gear-shifting mechanism under the control panel. There are switch buttons for ECO and SPORTS, as well as window and door lock control units.

In terms of the safety system, it is equipped with front safety airbags, hill assist systems (HHC), anti-lock braking systems (ABS), electric power steering (EPS), electronic brake force distribution (EBC), rear view cameras, parking sensors and so on.

LUMIN MINI EV is developed on the Changan EPA0 platform. About the Chinese version, the front-mounted front-drive single motor has two power options available: a motor power of 30 kW, accelerating 0-50 km/h in 6.5 seconds and 35 kW can accelerate 0-50 km/h in 6.1 seconds, with a top speed of 101 km/h.

Secondly, it features three battery capacities, namely 12.92 kWh, which provides a pure electric range of 155 kilometers; A capacity of 17.65 kWh enables a pure electric range of 210 kilometers, and the top configuration has a battery capacity of 27.99 kWh, which guarantees a pure electric range of 301 kilometers.

MG4 EV

The MG4 EV in Thailand is the first locally manufactured pure electric vehicle launched by SAIC Zhengda Ltd., which is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, rear-wheel drive, output power of 170kW, battery capacity of 51 kWh, and an NEDC pure electric range of 425 kilometers.

It is known that the Thai version of the MG4 EV comes standard with 17-inch rims, LED headlights + daytime running lights, a 7-inch LCD instrument panel, a 10.25-inch central control screen, ACC, lane keeping, etc.

Great Wall POER SAHAR

Great Wall's pickup model enters the Thai market. Based on the domestic model Great Wall Shanhai Cannon (GWM POER SAHAR), it will make its debut at the 45th Bangkok Motor Show.

The GWM POER SAHAR will be a plug-in hybrid pickup based on the same platform as the tank model. Referring to the Chinese version, the front of the car adopts a large area of chrome-plated decorative horizontal grille, and is paired with large-sized light groups on both sides, which looks luxurious and atmospheric. The new car will not be adjusted in size, referring to the fuel version with dimensions of 5440/1991/1924mm and a wheelbase of 3350mm. From the side, you can also see that the new car has a strong muscle feeling, and outstanding front and rear wheel arches are full of power.

In terms of power, the Chinese version is equipped with a 2.0T+9HAT hybrid system. The 2.0T engine used in ShanHai Cannon PHEV adopts the Miller cycle, with a maximum torque of 385N•m. This car integrates a P2 motor in the 9HAT gearbox, with a maximum power of 120kW and a torque of 400Nm. The combination of the two gives the power system a combined power of 300kW and a combined torque of 750N•m, with a 0-100km/h acceleration time of only 6.9 seconds.

Haval Jolion S HEV

Besides the POER SAHAR on the Great Wall Motor booth, there is also a compact SUV called Haval Jolion Sport HEV, which is being launched in Thailand for the first time. It is based on the Haval Jolion HEV with a smoked black sports kit.

The regular version has body dimensions of 4472 mm in length, 1841 mm in width, 1619 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2700 mm. The design features the breaking dawn matrix headlights, wind-guiding through the waistline, flaming wing tail lights, and trendy wheel hubs.

A three-screen interconnected system consisting of a 12.3-inch control center + LCD dashboard + HUD supports vehicle-wide FOTA upgrades. In addition, it is equipped with L2+ level intelligent driving assistance features composed of 14 radars and 5 cameras, as well as a 360° intelligent parking system.

Haval Jolion HEV adopts GWM Lemon Hybrid DHT. Through the efficient hybrid engine and dual motor hybrid cooperation, the power system efficiency can reach 43-50% in urban conditions, and the SUV's fuel consumption is as low as 4.2L per 100 kilometers.

XPengVoyager X2

The 45th edition will feature the XPeng X2 aircraft. Referring to Chinese data, the X2 weighs 360kg empty and has a maximum take-off weight of 560kg. Officials say its flight duration is 35 minutes and the maximum flight speed can reach 130km/h. The power part adopts eight sets of independent batteries and 4-axis 8-paddle layout, which can realize redundant power supply and vertical take-off and landing, and has been tested nearly 10,000 times.

Nissan Hyper Tourer Concept (Concept Car)

At the previously held 2023 Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan released a Hyper Tourer Concept MPV. This product is also displayed at the 45th Bangkok Motor Show.

The Hyper Tourer Concept has quite a futuristic design. The front face uses a closed design, and you can hardly see any seams. The head of the car is equipped with a large atmosphere light.

A large amount of glass is equipped on the side to increase the transparency of the cabin. In addition, the wheel rim design of the vehicle is very sci-fi. The rear of the car presents an hourglass design, and the English logo of the brand is set in the middle of the body, and there is a network element to pave the bottom.

The interior of the car has a relatively flat steering wheel and a large circular display screen, which is expected to bring a more avant-garde cockpit performance.

Next, the front seats can be rotated 360 degrees by the fully automatic driving system, which brings a more comfortable seat layout for passengers. Second-row passengers can wear display devices and access navigation and audio controls through the main infotainment screen.

As for the three-electric system, the car is equipped with a solid-state battery and e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system and also has V2X capability, the battery can provide power to homes, stores, or offices.

Mercedes Vision One-11 (Concept Car)

The Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven concept car made its domestic debut at the 2023 Guangzhou International Auto Show, and will also debut at the 45th Thailand International Auto Show. This high-performance concept sports car is inspired by the classic Mercedes-Benz C 111 experimental car, which blends retro and modern, technology and luxury to reveal the future-oriented design language and innovative high-performance electric drive system.

The shape of the Vision One-Eleven concept car features advanced technology that reinterprets the classic design elements of the C 111, which creates a strong contrast between vintage and modern.

It takes the bow-shaped body as the main design element, and the car height of just 1170 millimeters outlines a dynamic low-drag silhouette. The unique deep orange paint in an antique copper tone pays homage to the iconic paint color of the C 111. The low, round rectangular features on both sides of the front face are also tributes to the C 111. The part corresponding to the C 111 fog light adopts a 3D pixel-style display that gives a technologically advanced interpretation of the classic round fog light design of the C 111. The screen also has the function of communicating with other traffic participants.

The pixel-style patterns cover the gullwing doors that originated from the 300 SL and the C 111, and the large-size wheel rim design is inspired by motor windings. The conflict between minimalistic iconic lines  and the rims showcases the "X-factor" design, which is also one of the unique highlights of the Vision One-Eleven concept car design. The matte black skirt panels that run through the front and rear of the body also feature a clash aesthetic with bright eyes, while the left and right edge aerodynamic components are paired with perforated blue backlit light strips to create a dive position for flying close to the ground. Above the uniquely shaped diffuser at the rear of the car, a pixel-style display with red round lights is also used to echo the front and rear of the car.

In terms of interior design, the Vision One-Eleven concept car adopts a "VIP Lounge" cabin design that perfectly combines supercar control and luxury travel. In race mode, there are bucket seats with backrests that resemble those of F1 race cars. In leisure mode, seats adorned with silver sparkling diamond-shaped patches create an outstanding ambiance. The backrest can be reclined and integrated into the body of the car. The advantages of the electric drive system allow it to bid farewell to the compact layout of traditional mid-engined sports cars, which extends the interior space backward, creates a luxurious and comfortable cabin for the driver, and even sports car passengers can enjoy a relaxing journey. The dashboard is made of 100% recyclable polyester and the leather is tanned and crafted from coffee bean shells, which perfectly integrates technology and luxury with sustainable concepts.

By applying simulations and digital technology, connecting virtual with reality, the Vision One-Eleven concept car offers a brand-new human-car interaction experience. In front of the driver, a slender pixel-style screen spans the cabin to display core information such as car speed. Amd the high-resolution touchscreen next to the steering wheel displays corresponding images of reality. This retro-futuristic 8-bit pixel style is also a "soul element" (X-factor) design in Mercedes-Benz's design philosophy.

Volvo EX30

The Volvo EX30 will debut at the 45th Bangkok Motor Show. Continuing the Scandinavian design style, it is a small pure electric SUV within the Volvo brand. Shortly after its first launch last year, it has already entered the Thai market.

Volvo EX30 is the second electric vehicle, built on the SEA vast pure electric platform, named EX, and also the smallest model in Volvo's history

The exterior continues the design of the Volvo family models. Because it is purely electric-driven, the front face uses a sealed design that makes it look more three-dimensional. And the classic headlights are equipped on both sides.

The dimensions of Volvo EX30 are 4234mm in length, 1836mm in width, and 1550mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2650mm. Therefore, it looks more compact than the XC40 from the front view. However, because the roof uses a design method that extends to the back, the rear space is somewhat guaranteed.

According to the different configuration of the model, it uses either 18-inch alloy wheels with 225/55 R18 tires or 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels with 245/45 R19 tires.

The design highlight of the rear end is focused on the tail lights, which extend downwards cell by cell. In the middle, there is a long bar design highlighting the word VOLVO that shows a sense of hierarchy.

The interior continues the family's minimalist design style, and the interior of the car is made of environmentally friendly and renewable materials. The traditional all-LCD dashboard in the car has been replaced by a 12.3-inch iPad vertical central control touchscreen host, which displays the vehicle's information and controls the functions inside the car. In addition, the central control screen has a built-in Android operating system and supports downloading apps from the app store.

The Volvo EX30 in Thailand is equipped with a 69kWh high-performance nickel manganese cobalt lithium battery. According to the WLTP standard test, a single full charge can travel up to 480km, and it supports a maximum fast charging power of 153kW, which takes only 26.5 minutes to complete 10%–80% charging.

The longer-range rear-drive version has an output power of 199kW, a peak torque of 343N·m, an official 0-100km acceleration of 5.7 seconds, and a pure electric range of up to 480km.

The dual-motor four-wheel-drive performance version has an output power of 315kW, a peak torque of 543N·m, an official 0-100km acceleration of 3.6 seconds, and a pure electric range of up to 463km.

Jeep Wrangler 2024

This time, the Jeep booth will feature the 2024 edition of the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. The new car retains the classic 7-slot front grille that uses high-gloss smoked black coating and the official claims that this grille will have a better heat dissipation effect.

In some details, this new car will have five styles of aluminum alloy wheels, ranging from 17 inches to 20 inches. And there are nearly 10 body colors.

The interior maintains the family design style. It is equipped with a 12.3-inch touch center control screen, and a built-in Uconnect5 operating system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection.

In the European market, the Wrangler offers a power combination of a 2.0T four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, which can provide 380 horsepower and 637 Nm of torque. It is equipped with a 17kWh battery and can drive 33.6km purely on electric power. It has functions such as EV, battery power retention, and forced engine charging.

Lotus Eletre Blends Electric Hyper SUV

At this Bangkok Motor Show, Lotus will launch the Eletre SUV, which is also the first super sports pure electric SUV equipped with LIDAR. Its body length, width, and height dimensions are 5103/2231/1630mm respectively, and the wheelbase length is 3019mm. The overall aerodynamic design refers to Emira and Evija.

Lidar is installed in four places on the car, which is respectively placed above the two-wheel arches and on the front and rear roofs. The lower front bumper is equipped with a triangular petal active air vent, which closes when the vehicle is stationary or moving to reduce air resistance. When it needs air intake for heat dissipation, it will open to lower the temperature of the motor, battery, and front brakes. The rearview mirror uses a camera.

The tail light has four display effects, which are used for unlocking and charging status.

The car is equipped with a 15.1-inch screen, and the material is mainly nubuck fiber, while the seats are woven with sheep's wool, which not only reduces weight but also provides good texture.

The vehicle is equipped with 15 car speakers from the brand KEF with Uni-Q and surround sound technology.

Eletre uses a four-wheel drive with dual motors in the front and rear, its maximum output power is 600 horsepower and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour within 3 seconds. The top speed is 260 kilometers per hour, and the battery capacity exceeds 100 kilowatts. AC charging supports up to 22 kilowatts, and the highest DC fast charging supports 350 kW, with a charging time of only 20 minutes. Thus, it can travel more than 400 kilometers, and it can travel more than 600 kilometers when fully charged.
