A1 Grand Prix: Where National Pride Meets Racing Prowess
JamesFeb 23, 2024, 09:25 PM
A1 Grand Prix (A1 Grand Prix) is the first motorsport event based on countries as participants. The technology and equipment used by different teams in the A1 Grand Prix are consistent, and the main determining factor for the results is the driver's driving skills and courage. Teams and drivers work closely together to show the team's overall strength, and the feature of the game is that when they win, they will wave the national flag instead of the traditional checkered flag at the finish line.
Explanation of A1 Grand Prix
A1 Grand Prix (A1 Grand Prix) is the first car racing movement with the country as an entry unit. All teams in the A1 Grand Prix use the same technology and equipment, so the main determinant of performance is the driver's driving skills and courage. Teams and drivers work closely together to bring out the overall advantages. The characteristic of the competition is that when they win, the flag waving at the finish line will be the national flag, not the traditional checkered flag.

A1 Grand Prix Rules
The A1 World Cup Auto Grand Prix is a large international auto race approved by the International Motorsport Federation. According to the A1 Grand Prix entry rules, all contestants must use the same specification of high-level single-seat formula cars. Each participating country is only allowed to form one team to participate in the competition, and each team is only allowed to participate with one racing car. The sponsor must be the brand of that country, and the driver must possess the nationality of that country. In summary, the A1 event has a strong national concept and enjoys the reputation of "World Cup of Motorsport".
An A1GP auto grand prix lasts 4 days.
A1 Grand Prix Qualifying Round
The qualifying race takes place between 14:00 and 16:00 local time, including 4 stages, with 15 minutes in each stage, and 3 laps for each team in each stage.
A1 Grand Prix Race Day
Race day includes two races.
The first one is the "Speed Race", which is conducted for 50 kilometers or 20 minutes (whichever comes first). The race starts at 11:00 local time. Apart from awarding points, the final result of the sprint race determines the starting order of the official race.
The second one is the "Main Race" held at 15:00 local time, conducted for 200 kilometers or 70 minutes (again whichever comes first).
Scores for A1 Grand Prix
- Points in the Speed Races: The top 6 teams get points. The champion gets 6 points, the runner-up gets 5 points, and so on, down to the 6th place getting 1 point.
- Points in the Official Race: The top 10 teams get points. The champion gets 10 points, the runner-up gets 9 points, the third place gets 8 points, and so on, down to the 10th place getting 1 point.
At the same time, the team with the fastest lap on the race day will get an extra 1 point.
Points are awarded to the country, not the driver. Therefore, teams can change drivers at any time during the season without affecting their points.

The Difference Between A1 and F1 Cars
Compared with F1 cars, A1 cars have two characteristics: first, all racing specifications and models are unified. The A1 car was funded and designed by the founder of the A1 World Cup Auto Grand Prix, a member of the UAE royal family Makhtoum, and the chassis was made by the British Lola race car company, equipped with a Zytek engine, and transported by the Organizing Committee. This avoids the difference in car performance due to the difference in funds for each team like in F1, and in today's advanced technology, the performance of the car greatly affects the outcome of the game. Therefore, the A1 event is more fair and tests the team's technical staff's tuning level of the car and the driver's ability to drive the car. Secondly, A1 cars prioritize safety, whether it's in terms of power, torque, or maximum performance.
