Bangkok Motor Show: Chinese car companies make a strong entry, securing about 40% of orders

The 45th Bangkok International Motor Show was successfully held from March 25 to April 7. According to official data, the total number of car pre-orders was 53,438, of which electric cars accounted for 32.8% of the car orders. The share of electric cars in last year's exhibition was 21.5%.

According to the official statistics of the motor show, Toyota's pre-order volume far exceeds other participating brands, reaching 8,540 units. There were 38 car companies participating in this motor show.

There are five car companies in the top ten by pre-order volume from China, specifically:

Chinese car companies that participated in the Bangkok International Motor Show showed strong attraction to the Thai market and achieved considerable results.

1.AION ranked 7th in the ranking with a pre-order volume of 3,018.

AION's headquarters is located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, and was jointly established by GAC and Tencent. AION is GAC's strategic layout in the field of new energy vehicles. The company is committed to becoming a world-class new energy vehicle brand, providing users with high-quality intelligent electric vehicle products and services.

On April 7, DIDI announced that Andi Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Andi") established with GAC has obtained a business license. This is the first registered joint venture company in China of L4-level autonomous driving companies and automobile companies to mass-produce fully-automated electric Robotaxi.

2. With a record 5,345 pre-ordered cars, BYD has become the "leader" among Chinese auto brands in Thailand.

BYD released the 2024 model BYD ATTO 3 long-range version at this auto show and started pre-orders for the Denza D9, a new energy MPV first launched in Thailand last year. In addition, BYD also launched the brand new right-hand drive Song Max EV, BYD Sea Lion, BYD Seal U and Sun King U9.

Among the 5,345 pre-ordered BYD cars, the most popular model is the Dolphin (2,379 units), followed by the Atto3 (1,457 units), Seal (702 units), Denza D9 (647 units), and Seal U (160 units).

Revve Group CEO Pratarnwong Phornprapha, a BYD distributor, said that one factor for the company's positive response was the "RUNOUT" event of the BYD Atto3 standard model, which sold out within a day.

3.Boma received orders in the last four days, finally getting a reservation volume of 140 cars.

The full name of Boma Company is Qingdao Weiao Auto Co., Ltd., headquartered in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China. The company focuses on the field of mini electric vehicles, with affordable prices, positioned in the mid-to-low end market, and the models have a high cost-performance ratio.

Boma launched Honri Boma EV at this auto show, which offers two battery options, 11.9 kWh (with a cruising range of 130 kilometers) and 18.5 kWh (with a cruising range of 200 kilometers).

4.ChangAn ignited the Thai market, closing with 3,073 car orders, ranking sixth among all brands.

ChangAn Auto Company is headquartered in Chongqing, China. The company was established in 1862, formerly the Shanghai Yang Pao Bureau of China, and is the pioneer of China's automobile industry. ChangAn Auto has a 158-year history, 36 years of car making, and has 14 production bases and 33 complete vehicle/engine/transmission factories worldwide.

ChangAn released new models Lumin, DEEPAL S07, L07 extended version at this auto show, and also showcased its main products CD701 and Avatr 11. At the same time, the Lumin series was also the prize of the lottery draw at this Bangkok International Auto Show.

On March 25th, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, visited the ChangAn booth. After experiencing CD701, Avatr 11, DEEPAL, and Lumin, he praised the design of CD701 and the functional design of Avatr 11.

5. GWM, with 2815 pre-orders, ranks eighth among all brands.

The GWM headquarters is located in Baoding, Hebei Province, China. It was founded in 1976 as a state-owned enterprise in China that initially produced pickups. In the 1990s, GWM began to produce sedans and SUVs. The company has more than 60 production bases and sales outlets worldwide, and its products are sold to more than 100 countries and regions.

GWM unveiled its first hybrid intelligent pickup - POER SAHAR HEV, at this auto show and started a blind selection. At the same time, it announced the spokesperson for JOLION Sport as the famous Thai band Three Man Down.

6. With a pre-order volume of 3518 cars, the MG brand ranks 4th.

MG is currently owned by China's SAIC Motor Group. SAIC Motor Group is the largest automotive group in China in terms of production and sales. The company's business mainly covers whole vehicles, parts, mobile travel and services, finance, international operations, and innovative technology. The predecessor of the SAIC Motor Group was the Shanghai Automobile Manufacturing Plant, established in 1958, which was the first automobile manufacturing plant in China.

At this Bangkok International Auto Show, MG brought models such as MG4 facelift, MG VS HEV 100th anniversary special edition, MG ZS EV anniversary special edition, MG 5, MG 5 pro, cyberster, MAXUS 7 and MAXUS 9.

MG entered the Thai market in 2019 and witnessed the first locally manufactured electric vehicle rolling off the production line in this Southeast Asian country last November. MG's development in Thailand is swift. 2024 will be the 10th anniversary of MG entering the Thai market and the 100th anniversary of the brand's establishment.

7. Neta had an impressive performance at the auto show, receiving 1,618 car orders.

Neta is a new energy vehicle brand under the carmaker Neta. It was founded in 2014 and based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. Neta is positioned as a "young, intelligent, technology" brand, and its products are mainly aimed at young consumers. Neta has already launched several models, including the Neta V, Neta U, Neta S, and Neta E.

8.XPENG and ZEEKR have not yet been launched in Thailand but have received orders for 188 and 398 units respectively.

XPENG is an intelligent electric vehicle company, established in 2014, headquartered in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China. XPENG is committed to providing users with an intelligent, safe and comfortable travel experience.

The most eye-catching thing at this auto show is the XPENG voyager X2 flying car, which has drawn the public's attention to the field of flying cars, as if bringing scenes from science fiction movies into real life.

ZEEKR is a high-end intelligent electric vehicle brand under Geely Auto Group, which was officially launched in March 2021. GEELY is a Chinese car manufacturer established in 1997 and headquartered in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. In 2007, Geely Automobile acquired UK's Manganese Bronze Holdings, becoming the parent company of the well-known car brand Volvo.

On March 25, ZEEKR opened the reservation for right-hand drive (RHD) ZEEKR Urban SUV and ZEEKR 009 MPV vehicles in Thailand to meet the growing demand for high-end intelligent electric vehicles among Thai customers. ZEEKR plans to set up its first store in Bangkok this year, and gradually expand its sales and service network in cities such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya.

This Bangkok International Auto Show fully demonstrates the strong strength and development potential of Chinese automakers. In the future, Chinese car companies will continue to penetrate into the Thai market, provide more high-quality automotive products and services for Thai consumers, and support the development of Thailand's auto industry.
