BMW's new generation concept car will debut at the Beijing Auto Show, and will start production in the second half of 2025

On April 17, BMW officially announced that the new generation concept car will be unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show on April 25 and will be put into production in the second half of 2025. Compared with BMW’s current models, the new era concept car has ushered in pioneering changes in all aspects, including the adoption of a new design language, a new electronic architecture, new digital experiences, brand-new electric drive systems, and battery technologies, etc. The official statement defined it not merely as a product, but also a representation of BMW’s design direction, philosophy, and vision for the future.

Appearance-wise, this BMW new generation concept car is eye-catching, the overall design is completely different from existing models. The car carries a minimalistic yet opulent design, and its sharp and distinct lines have not been overlaid with a smooth vehicle body design.

Although this concept car has a very futuristic and Sci-Fi design, it still retains BMW's classic kidney-shaped elements. It shows that BMW's designers are continuously innovating and breaking through while persistently inheriting the brand's iconic design elements, thus maintaining its high recognizability and uniqueness.

Looking at the details, the grille design of this new generation BMW concept car is not outrageous, and it does not adopt the vertical grille design of the M Power model. Instead, it opts for a wider and flatter design style. According to BMW, the new grille will be replaced by light, as the grille and the headlights are completely integrated, both in terms of design and functionality.

The side of the body is very simple, without traditional door handles and external rear-view mirrors. Instead, it comes with an aerodynamic design that integrates electronic external rear-view mirrors, which is aesthetically pleasing and reduces the overall drag coefficient of the car. In addition, the new car adopts a short front and rear suspension design. The officials stated that this is to improve the vehicle's handling and maximize interior space.

At the same time, the new car adopts very individual wheel hubs, and the size is very large, making the whole body particularly plump. In addition, it also uses the center hole single bolt technology derived from racing cars to further emphasize the performance range of the new car.

The rear design of the body seems a bit too excessive, adopting a tail lamp shape similar to a double kidney grille, and forming a comparison with the front face. The middle is the BMW brand LOGO, and the weakening treatment is carried out to present a looming visual effect. However, the bottom shape is a bit incomprehensible, it is equipped with a very rough rear surround, which seems to want to present the wild side.

For the interior design, the new car also uses a minimalist style, the console only retains the steering wheel and a large floating screen. Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, should probably give it a thumbs up, because the newly released Model 3 is of this style.

However, the difference is that this new-age concept car is equipped with a more advanced intelligent cockpit, including the full-view field bridge, central information display screen, 3D view display, and new multi-functional steering wheel, etc. Among them, the full-view field bridge function is very amazing. It uses the bottom of the entire front windshield as the information display area, which can display driving status, navigation, social, communication, and other information.

Meanwhile, the driver can "remotely" link this information with the central information display screen, allowing the driver to independently define the most needed information by simple touch screen dragging, and placing this information in the most easily readable position. Simply put, the panoramic vision bridge function integrates the functions of all LCD instruments, the HUD heads-up display, and the control screen.

As for power, the new car will use the sixth-generation BMW eDrive electric drive technology and will launch a brand-new architecture called NCAR (New Cluster Architecture), instead of the current CLAR and FAAR architecture. The official statement is that models built based on the new architecture will see a 20% increase in power performance, a 30% increase in pure electric endurance mileage, and a 30% increase in charging time.
