Sime Darby Motors officially confirmed that BYD M6 will land in Malaysia on October 15th. This electric MPV will become the fourth electric car launched in Malaysia after BYD Atto 3, BYD Dolphin, and BYD Seal. This pure-electric MPV has been launched in Indonesia and will soon be available in Singapore.

It is not yet clear which version of the BYD M6 Sime Darby Motors will launch in Malaysia. But based on the global market configuration table, it can be guessed that this MPV will also use a 6-seat (2+2+2) or 7-seat (2+3+2) configuration.

BYD M6 seems to be an upgraded version of the old BYD E6, with major improvements to the front face. The headlight design now incorporates a full-width silver decoration. The tail uses full-width taillights with intricate detail design, and a set of 17-inch Y-type alloy wheels make the exterior makeover more perfect.

From a power configuration perspective, according to the global specifications table, the BYD M6 comes equipped with a single engine driving the front wheels, power is set at 150kW (201hp), and torque is 310N·m, similar to BYD Atto 3 and BYD Dolphin ER.

In terms of body size, the BYD M6 is 4710 mm long, 1810 mm wide, and 1690 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2800 mm. In contrast, the size of the Toyota Innova Zenix is slightly smaller, with the latter being 4760 mm long, 1850 mm wide, 1796 mm high, and with a wheelbase of 2850 mm.

The name BYD M6 has actually been used in the Chinese market quite early. After production was discontinued in 2015, the name was inherited by the current BYD M6. The current BYD M6 can be considered as the pure electric version of today's BYD SONG MAX sold in the Chinese market, positioned as a compact MPV.

According to the latest data from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) of Malaysia, BYD has now become the largest market share of electrified car manufacturers in the local area of Malaysia. From January to August in 2024, BYD has registered a total of 5,603 electric vehicles, accounting for 39% of the market share. Among them, BYD Seal is the most popular model, which has registered 2,267 vehicles so far this year, followed by BYD Atto 3, with a registration volume of 2,217 vehicles, and BYD Dolphin with 1,119 vehicles.
