BYD confirmed in September that it will launch its high-end Denza brand in Malaysia in the first quarter of 2025. Notably, Denza will not be distributed by Sime Darby Motors, but directly by BYD's wholly-owned national sales office BYD Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
However, this does not mean that Sime Darby Motors will not participate in Denza's business in Malaysia, as Sime Darby Motors will still participate in Denza's business as an importer through its subsidiary Sime Darby Auto Imports Sdn. Bhd. Currently, BYD has formally signed the Denza importation and distribution agreement with Sime Darby Auto Imports Sdn Bhd and BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

Denza was established in 2010 and is a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, with their first product being the Denza EV, a pure electric vehicle built on the Mercedes-Benz B-Class platform. Mercedes-Benz began to reduce its stake in Denza in 2021, and transferred all its remaining shares to BYD in September 2024, meaning that Denza has now become a wholly-owned high-end brand of BYD.
Denza offers five series in the Chinese market, namely the Denza Z9, Denza D9, Denza N7, Denza N8 and Denza Z9 GT, covering SUVs, mid-to-large sedans and MPVs. The Denza D9 is the only series with right-hand drive models, so it is the most likely to be introduced to Malaysia. Notably, images of the Denza D9 on the road in Malaysia were captured in July this year, further confirming the high likelihood of the Denza D9 making its debut in Malaysia as the first model.

The Denza D9 is an MPV model, priced at HK668,350 to HK753,350 in the Hong Kong market (RM368,000 to RM415,000), with two models to choose from: Denza D9 Advanced – FWD and Denza D9 Premium – AWD, which represent front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive respectively. Its direct competitors in the market are traditional MPV models such as Toyota Alphard and Honda Odyssey, as well as newly launched electrified MPV models like ZEEKR 009.

In terms of power, the Denza D9 can provide a maximum power of 230kw-275kw, peak torque of 360N·m-470N·m, and 0-100 acceleration time of 6.9s-9.5s. Both models are equipped with a 103kwh BYD Blade battery, with a NEDC combined range of 580km-600km.
In terms of body size, the length, width, and height of the Denza D9 are 5250mm/1960mm/1920mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 3110mm. Judging from the data, the space performance is excellent, and it will be equipped with 18-inch rims. The overall visual effect of the car will be that of a large vehicle.
