BYD Yangwang U8: China's High-End SUV

For a long time, Chinese cars have always been labeled as "cheap and high-equipped". Even in the era of new energy, Chinese cars have achieved "overtaking" with a new track. However, simply selling more and selling well can't prove anything. Only by achieving true luxury, even if the price is high, can be recognized by the world, that is the real rise.
As a high-end brand in China, BYD Yangwang U8 has two models in China, the luxury version and the off-road player version, both priced at RM 713,000, so what are the highlights and technical innovations of the BYD Yangwang U8?
BYD Yangwang U8 is positioned as a new energy hardcore off-road SUV with a rough aura. The front face adopts a huge grille and dot-matrix LED light source, and the rear has "L"-shaped and dot-matrix LED light source, which is highly recognizable. The whole car is equipped with 38 high-precision sensors, including 3 LIDARs, 5 millimeter-wave radars, 12 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors, with advanced intelligent driving assistance functions.
The luxury version and the off-road version provide five body color options: the luxury version is available in White (Glossy), Gray Green (Glossy/Matte), Moonlight Silver (Matte), Obsidian Black (Glossy); the off-road version is available in Flint White (Glossy), Light Green (Glossy/Matte), Moonlight Silver (Matte), Obsidian Black (Glossy).
In terms of size, the BYD Yangwang U8 measures 5319*2050*1930mm with a wheelbase of 3050mm, its nterior space is excellent. The luxury version comes standard with 22-inch forged wheels, while the off-road version comes standard with 20-inch off-road player-specific forged wheels.
Inside the BYD Yangwang U8, curved lines are used to create a sense of enclosure. The car is quipped with a 12.8-inch curved screen which is tilted at 37 degrees for a better user experience. And the 23.6-inch full LCD dashboard and co-pilot entertainment screen create a sense of technology.
The rear is equipped with 2 12.8-inch screens that can be linked to the front screen. The four-spoke steering wheel with auxiliary driving indicator light and adjustment function, physical buttons and dial under the center console, practical design of wireless charging for mobile phones on the sub-dashboard and armrest. The intelligent following seat adjusts the side wings according to real-time road conditions to provide lumbar support. Top-grade Nappa leather seats, equipped with a Hi-End level sound system with 22 speakers, provide a luxurious and comfortable riding experience.
In terms of power, the new car adopts a four-wheel, four-motor structure with a maximum power of each motor between 220-240kW and maximum torque between 320-420 Nm. The total power is 1197 horsepower, and it will be equipped with an easy-to-use quad-blade battery and a non-load-bearing body. It is equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged range extender, which can achieve a maximum comprehensive range of 1000km (CLTC conditions).
The onboard Yunlang-P intelligent hydraulic body control system has independently adjustable height, stiffness, and damping functions. The suspension adjustment stroke is up to 150mm, and the maximum wading depth can reach 1m.
Which do you prefer, the luxury edition or the off-road player edition?
Exterior design: There's a certain difference in the front face design of the two models. The bumper of the luxury version is more sophisticated, while the front bumper of the off-road player version looks more stiff and can better protect the car's head from bumps in the wilderness. In addition, the off-road player's version has a detachable roof box to further increase storage space, and the side of the body is equipped with a small ladder for easy access to items.
Performance and Features: Both models are equipped with spare tires. The luxury version's octagonal tire cover looks rugged, while the off-road player version features a more exposed tire design, which shows a bit of wildness. In addition, the off-road player version has more driving modes to cope with more complex off-road conditions.
Interior design: Although the interior designs of the two models are similar, there are some differences in detail. For example, the luxury version may have more comfort configurations, while the off-road player version focuses more on the combination of practicality and off-road performance.
BYD Yangwang U8 luxury version is mainly for family and business trips, which aims to provide the passengers with a super luxury experience. It uses 22-inch rims and highway tires, providing a quiet and comfortable riding environment. The intelligent cockpit supports multiple sound zone human-vehicle interaction and five-screen linkage functions, which is convenient for children to operate. The car is equipped with 38 intelligent sensing components that can provide proactive safety guarantees to make travel safer. In addition, the luxury version is equipped with 15+1 driving modes, divided into 10 driving modes, 5 travel functions, and one all-terrain adaptive feedback system.
The U8 off-road player version pays more attention to the improvement of off-road performance. It uses a thermal management system that is more adaptable to off-road conditions to make the off-road performance more stable and reliable. On the top of the car, the detachable luggage rack enhances the load capacity, ensuring sufficient supplies to cross uninhabited areas. In addition, it comes standard with a wading throat, which can easily cope with wading roads. The fitted AT tire has thicker patterns and deeper grooves, and the shoulder strength is significantly improved, which can cope with various harsh road conditions. The 17+1 driving modes allow it to intelligently recognize and adjust to all-terrain conditions, and it can easily cope with extreme off-road conditions.
At night, the infrared detection module on the roof of the U8 off-road player version has a thermal imaging function, which can clearly detect nearby people or animals.
