Why Jetour T2 Could Be the Next Hot SUV in Malaysia? Let Me Tell You!

【PCauto】At the recent Malaysia Auto Show, many visitors showed great interest in the boxy-designed Jetour T2 SUV, which is expected to be launched in Malaysia in the fourth quarter. There's growing anticipation that the T2 might replicate the remarkable sales success of the Jaecoo J7 in Malaysia.
Jetour T2 is a best-seller in China. Despite the widespread popularity of electric vehicles there, the gasoline-powered version of the T2—sold as the Jetour Traveller with a starting price of approximately RM 65,346—continues to perform exceptionally well. In April 2025, the Traveller achieved sales of 11,165 units, an outstanding figure in China's highly competitive automotive market, particularly in the boxy SUV segment. Since its debut 20 months ago, cumulative sales of the Traveller have surpassed 250,000 units.
Such good sales owes much to its distinctive exterior design. Jetour Traveller's boxy body style is rugged and off-road, and even someone called it as the "Chery version of the Land Rover Defender."
The front end of the Jetour Traveller features bold, straight lines, while the raised contours on the broad hood add a sense of solidity. The sharply angled edges on both sides further enhance the muscular and powerful appearance of the front fascia.
The large front grille featureing blackened honeycomb is embedded into Jetour Traveller's large-size mid-net. Its 2025 model showing an obvious "JETOUR" logo in crystal chrome plating at its center. The multi-light matrix headlights smoothly integrate with the grille, while the illuminated letter emblem at the center of the light cluster significantly enhances its visibility at night. The bumper includes extensive blackened trim panels, with fog lights and tow hooks on both sides, further emphasizing the vehicle's rugged style.
From the side profile, the Jetour Traveller exhibits a boxy and muscular design. Its robust hollow roof rails combine practicality with distinctive styling, while the wraparound windows paired with blackened A-pillars and D-pillars create a fashionable floating roof effect. Flared door panels, sharply defined wheel arch accents, blackened trim pieces, and prominent side steps reinforce its off-road aesthetic.
At the rear, its classic spare tire-mounted rear door and vertically arranged taillights—encased in black trim—deliver full off-road character, while the waterfall-style full-width light bar provides exceptional visibility when illuminated.
Although the Jetour Traveller's exterior appears as rugged as the GWM Tank 300, it adopts a unibody construction, meaning it's actually an urban SUV—but this feature doesn't decrease its popularity among consumers.
The interior of the Jetour Traveller, a model from China, provides the consumers with a feeling of familiarity. Its interior adopts a T-shaped flat layout, with the floating 15.6-inch central control screen on the vertical central control console and the built-in 10.25-inch liquid crystal dashboard showing technological sense. In addition, its vehicle system uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. The faux suede material seats paired with the crystal shift knob enhance the luxury of the whole vehicle. Besides that, some physical buttons are retained in the vehicle.
In China, the Jetour Traveller offers three powertrain options:
1.5T + 7DCT: The 1.5T engine delivers a maximum power of 135 kW (184 hp) and peak torque of 290 N·m, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission in a front-wheel-drive configuration. This setup is ideal for daily family use, providing smooth power delivery and relatively low fuel consumption.
2.0T + 7DCT: The 2.0T engine delivers 187 kW (254 hp) and 390 N·m of torque, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Some variants are equipped with an XWD fully automatic intelligent all-wheel-drive system, catering to users who desire outstanding performance for light off-roading or power output.
2.0T + 8AT: The 2.0T engine is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and also includes an all-wheel-drive system. This combination ensures stable and powerful performance, excelling in challenging terrain or off-road scenarios while achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 8 seconds, making it easy to drive in urban and highway.
Besides, the PHEV version, locally named in China as Jetour Traveller T2, is equipped with a 1.5T+3DHT hybrid power system, including a 156-horsepower 1.5T engine, a dedicated transmission for plug-in hybrids, and an electric motor. The system's maximum horsepower is as high as 380, with a maximum torque of 610N·m. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.
The models with medium-lower configurations are equipped with a 26.7 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, offering a CLTC pure electric range of 129 km, while the models with higher configurations adopt a 43.24 kWh LFP battery with a CLTC range of 208 km and supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) discharge at up to 6.6 kW. When the battery is exhausted, the Jetour Traveller T2 achieves a fuel consumption of 6.3L/100km.
The plug-in hybrid system expected to be launched in Malaysia under the Jetour T2 name is likely this same setup. This PHEV system delivers strong performance, with brisk acceleration at low-to-mid speeds and ample power in Sport mode—though it decelerates slightly at higher speeds. The driving characteristics are distinct across different modes, and the 3DHT transmission ensures smooth gear shifts.
The Jetour Traveller, or Jetour T2, is an excellent urban SUV that also meets the need of light off-road, easily driving on unpaved roads. The vehicle perfectly meets the needs of urban professionals: stylish looks for daily use, coupled with light off-road capability for weekend adventures. Its good sales in China shows its popularity as a well-rounded SUV.
